More Objective Review - 5/13/2009
I have lived in Steubenville and the surrounding area for the entire 25 years of my life and still do. The previous reviews seem to all (but one) be from people who either hated their experience and/or haven't lived here for the last decade. Hopefully I can offer a less biased review for those who want a better idea of what Steubenville is like.
Steubenville used to be a mill-based town, and because of economic changes country-wide the mills have been shrinking and gradually closing. This hit the area rather hard as so many people and jobs were connected to them. As of yet, the area has not found an industry to take the place of the mills, and this, coupled with the recession, is why there are still so few jobs available. As another reviewer mentioned, Steubenville is only an hour from downtown Pittsburgh and about half an hour from the Robinson Town Centre(a major shopping center)and the Pittsburgh airport. My husband works in downtown Pittsburgh but we chose to stay in

When i grew up there 10 years ago there was 25 per class now 15 that shows whats happening there

Read, about the REAL Steubenville. - 2/24/2007
First of all, I would like to say that negative things that "the other posters" say do not help the community in any means, so why would you sit there and cry about it... Your not helping anything by acting so negative. So heres the deal. I actually go to Steubenville High School...... and to say that there are 30-40 kids in each class is a joke. That is so funny to me. I would say that the class average is about 15 kids. In my first period art class there are about 12 kids, ACT/SAT Preperation class there are about 9 kids, Algebra 2 there are about 18 kids, British Literature there are about 15 kids, Introduction to Technology there are about 10 kids, My fitness class has about 12 kids, and my statistics class has 6 kids. So whoever says that there are.... THIRTY-FORTY kids per class..... sorry but thats a lie, they are obviously angry at the school for some other reason. You will only find small, very efficient classes at Steubenville High School. If you want to find out more about

agree with Jeff and "Don't Move Here" story - 5/9/2006
We had to move here from another state almost 10 years ago, and I have never found a more morose, unhappy place as the Steubenville/Weirton area.
Schools are horrid; my son was actually told, at age 16, that he was old enough to work in the mills so why did he want to continue his education? He had been ill and wanted to continue his classes to go to college, but they did not offer college-level courses. In fact, the kids he went to school with didn't know basic grade school knowledge, let alone high school to college level. When we asked the vice principal why they stated this to our son, we were told that most of the courses in the school are for the kids to graduate high school, not to continue on to college level schools. We couldn't believe it, but it was true! Our youngest now attends a parochial school (which really doesn't test his intelligence, either, but it gets him out of the overcrowded, low teacher-high student ratio [32-40 to one teacher] schools of

DO NOT EVER MOVE HERE !!!!YOU WILL THANK ME !!! - 4/30/2006
I was born and raised in steubenville left when i was 19 and havent been back since except for a family funeral . The cost of living is great 300-500 for a house or apartment but that doesnt matter cause it is nearly impossible to find a job in this place .Averagely 6-8 months unless you get lucky . The locals are not liberal at all not a diverse place theres no asians ,hispanics ,gays or any other minority for that matter except black and theres some racial tension there as well . The steel mills that used to support the area have went under so the only major corporations that are there is walmart and herald star newspaper . The population has decreased from 37,000 to 20,000 in about two or three decades . The crime is out of control for a small town of this size especially in the so called downtown area . Summers are humid but nice if your not dodging bullets from the occasional drive by shootings .There is a mall here but with all about 15 stores the closest thing to nice shopping
