Jobs - 3/14/2014
The worse thing about living in Muskogee, OK is that only approximately 10%, or less, of the jobs here pay over minimum wage. There are a lot of vacancies for minimum wage all over the place. Every time you go into a business you see new employees because the old ones found a better paying job finally at a factory etc. Unless your a Dr., Dentist, etc. get ready for minimum Read More

Living in Muskogee - 10/23/2013
I've lived in Muskogee for over 35 years. All of my family lives in Oregon. Ore. & Okla. are as different as night and day! People are very friendly here, and we want to make sure that new comers feel at home here. Whereas in Ore. people are cold, rude, and distant. They do not want people moving to their state. I lived in Ore. for many years. I grew up in Banks, ore. I moved to Muskogee 35 years ago. Every time I visit Ore. the people get more, and more rude, and hateful. Robot personalities at the super market. Most Oregonians make fun of people from other states. whereas, in Muskogee you're greeted with a smile in the supermarket. Every other car is waving, or knodding their head at you to say hello. Muskogee has the warmest, kindest people. Oregon is a beautiful State with very ugly people living in it. Summers are hot here, the lakes aren't the best of lakes here, there's really not much to do here but gamble at the hundreds of Indian casinos, or drink in the bars, but there's a Read More

the town of muskogee,Ok. - 6/11/2012
Living in Muskogee, you will see many cops at roadblocks, and pulling people over, to help get the funding they need to hire more cops, and you will have access to lakes in the surrounding areas, like Ft.Gibson dam, and Wahoo lake, and syquaha bay, and Jackson bay, but watch for water moccasins (snakes), and the roads here are really bad, even when they "repair" a road, it has waves on it, they say it's because there's a trolly under the streets,(I never heard of that before), and you have a casino to go to, and a few bars, and a couple of malls, and a few food places to see. If you own a trailer (even a travel trailer), you MUST have cement under it, or they will make you move it to a trailer park (even if you own the property its on),and you will have to pay 175.00 a month for the space, and 300.00 to hook up the electric, and about 50.00 for the water, if you dont want to go to a trailer park to park your travel trailer, you can go to a RV park, and it only cost you 22.00 on up a day. Read More

Aging - 8/23/2008
As we Boomers age, Muskogee is a good place to live. It is small with relatively low crime. Housing costs are very low and if you move here from somewhere else your $$ will really stretch. Though there is not alot of things to do (but more is happening all the time) Tulsa is about 45 minutes away (which is like driving around a really large city). Tulsa has just about anything anyone would want and by living in Muskogee we avoid the problems that come with large cities. Muskogee is a very friendly town and people are very Read More

active midage couple seeking best of both worlds.. - 7/22/2008
We are a mixed couple (i am from Chicago and white, my wife from Texas is black), that seeks somewhat of a quiet living but likes parks, eating out, museums and such attractions, with friendliness and happiness abounding. Where we are now is sorely negative, and we miss smiling. I like the low cost of living a lot, and would need to probably work out of tulsa to give us the living we enjoy. How might the daily commute be?

I need to ask about our family makeup and how it is viewed, as honestly as possible, BEFORE we move further. Also, I think it is fair to ask about whether people behave themselves and self govern, or if there is a (possibly over)active police force. Kind of tired of speeding tickets...LOL.

Home's are inexpensive here. Ranging from the low %40K to the high of %200K
crime is not bad, and the school's are good. Special education is wonderful.
A great example of housing cost is where we live.We ae a family of 4, we lease a home. Our home is a 4 bedroom 2 bath 2 story, the size is approx. 2,300 sq ft. Our payment is 500.00 a month. On our street the crime is ungeard of, we do not loack our door's at night. It's a nice big wonderful home..... You would enjoy Muskogee. We sure do. The average household income of a family of 4 is 1,200 a month. Upper middle income is around 2,500 a month, our retirement income is 3,700 a month, we are very comfortable.
