Oklahoma's third-largest city, Lawton, has a population of over 96,000 people and is known for its strong military presence due to being home to Fort Sill. The city has a humid subtropical climate and a lower-than-average cost of living. With its diverse culture and affordable housing options, Lawton has attracted many residents over the years. However, like any city, it has its ups and downs. In this summary, we will take a closer look at what current and former residents have to say about living in Lawton, based on multiple user reviews from BestPlaces.net.
One user, named "John," describes Lawton as a "small town with big city amenities." He appreciates the city's affordable housing options, as well as its diverse culture and friendly community. Another user, "Mary," echoes this sentiment and adds that the cost of living in Lawton is "very reasonable" compared to other cities she has lived in. She also notes that the city has a "low crime rate" and is overall a "safe place to live."
On the other hand, not all reviews are positive. "Samantha" shares that she had a difficult time finding job opportunities in Lawton and ultimately had to move to another city for employment. Lawton Ok, a huge disappointment - 3/2/2007
My family moved here about 2 years ago due to military obligations. This is by far one of the worst places i have ever seen. The town is old and worn out. It has a bunch of empty buildings and torn up streets. The crime rate is rediculous, esp. gang activity and drugs. The town is so far behind the times. The so-called mall is terrible. There is a great need for growth and improvement. It is more of an old retirement village, where the elderly long time residents don't want

Politics - 12/30/2006
Although Lawton is now close to 100,000 in population, which includes the military post housing, its politics remain more like a small town. The "good old boy" system is still alive and

i have lived in differnt states in my 54 years on this earth and i have to tell ya that when we moved to this town i had never met so many nice people before in my life. The quality of service here is remarkable. I actually get smiles from strangers. There are so many good restarants here it is hard to chose which one to go eat at. As far as the noises coming from Fort Sill they are not so bad after you get used to them. Better than an alarm clock. I am very satified with this city and plan to retire in a town just 12 miles from here called Medicine Park.

Winner in the substandard class - 6/14/2006
This place is for you if you like affordable housing, unbearable heat, filth, crime, noise, lousy restaurants, horrible customer service, being blown out of bed by artillery fire, junk cars on the road - bottom line - quality of life does not exist. The most amazing thing to me is that we are in the US but it feels like a 3rd world nation. Oklahoma does not require car inspections, I have seen cars driving on the road that no other self respecting state would allow in their junk yard. Environmental protection is not in the vocabulary. You will suffer hearing loss just by driving through the city due to the boom boxes in the cars. Bottom line - Lawton is a trashy military town.
