Lawton - 7/27/2015
I've lived in Lawton, Oklahoma my whole life so I can honestly say it has definitely improved. From the many new restaurants, to all the new shopping establishments, Lawton is definitely a place I would recommend moving to. As for the crime I believe over the last few years it has improved greatly. As with any city, there are still a few sketchy parts of town, but I choose not to go to those places. So all in all, I do feel Lawton is a safe place to live. If you're looking for a little extra adventure, plan a day of hiking at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge (ranked the best Wildlife Refuge in the US in 2015) it truly is a beautiful place to explore. Read More

Wonderfully welcoming community - 7/31/2013
Lawton, Oklahoma is a delightfully diverse community which is more welcoming than many other cities where I have lived and visited. The City of Lawton has made a strong commitment to improving the quality of life for its citizens by providing additional sidewalks and bike trails throughout the city in addition to the abundance of parks and outdoor recreation facilities. New retail establishments are flocking to the city's two new shopping centers, bringing enhanced shopping, jobs, and visitors. Quality job opportunities are prevalent and the natural beauty of the Wichita Mountains adds significantly to the joy of living in southwest Oklahoma. I am so glad I moved to Read More

Wonderful Place To Live - 7/31/2013
The Lawton Fort Sill community is a very unique place to call home. No where else have I been apart of a community where an attitude of pride and unity define the people. We are friendly, supportive, and resilient. The leadership throughout the city and surrounding towns has a vision for growth, change, and innovation, and those ideals are being implemented each day. The cost of living is excellent compared to other cities across the US; Cameron University and Great Plains Technology Center offer advanced degree programs for students and adults; we have state of the art medicial facilities and a plethera of outdoor activities to engage in, depending on your preference. The list of positive things regarding our community goes on and on- people who think differently might not have engaged or sought out the wonderful attributes our city has to offer. We really are a hidden gem in the Wichita Mountains. You should see for Read More

DO NOT MOVE HERE!!! - 9/15/2012
Ok..I will be 100 percent completely honest in this post. Forgive me if I offend anyone. First off I have lived in lawton for 26+ years. If it wasnt for my current situation personally and financially I wouldve left a long time ago...I will break it down for you...

rent/mortgages- rent here is so damn high!! everytime the military gets a raise in their BAH the realtors find out about it and raises their prices. I AM NOT in the military so it sucked living in an apartment that was once 460 end up being 625 monthly when i moved out...that was for 2 bedrooms and that was the landlord being nice. The price was supose to be 675 for me!!!

childcare-childcare here is great. but it is based around what the military works...in this town if you arent a soldier or a soldiers wife they dont give a damn about you..daycares are open mon-fri lord help if youre a single parent and have to work on saturdays you have nobody to keep your kids.

REPULSIVE - 9/14/2012
Lawton is a sh*thole, plain and simple. It is like a mini LA, but without all the good stuff. Nothing here but lazy, fat, miserable, low-lifes living off the government. The military is what keeps this town from disappearing from the map. The military gets all the blame for the rundown, crime-ridden nature of Lawton, when in actuality it is the trashy locals who make this place so unbearable. I lived in Lawton for four years and moved to Elgin to escape the madness. Elgin is a nice, VERY SMALL town, but I like that about it. I only come to Lawton when I absolutely have no other choice. The roads are pathetic, the cost of living is high for what there is to offer here, and the schools are pathetic. Once my husband retires from the military in a few years, we are so OUTTA HERE!! The only thing that would improve this city is an atomic Read More
