crime - 5/30/2006
Tulsa does have a very high crime rate, but I have lived around the area long enough to know that the high cime rate areas are all the areas in the north and northeast portions of Tulsa. Highway 51 basically divides Tulsa. Everything south of 51 is great and everything north needs to be avoided. The parts of Tulsa by the river in the central area are nice as well as all of south Tulsa. Crime is real bad in north and northeast Tulsa especially around the Turley area, but if you live south of highway 51 you have nothing to worry about. I love Tulsa and I would not want to live anywhere Read More

The people are great - the job market sucks - 2/5/2006
The job market wasnt much when we lived there (which is why we dont live there anymore). A bachelors degree will get you about $11/hr and a highschool education will earn you minimum wage. The weather was much nicer than I had expected and the housing market is very affordable. I remember a conversation that I had with my brother. When I told him that we bought a house for $48K he said thats what he paid for his truck. Then he asked me if my house had running water and an indoor toilet :). Got to love that sense of humor. Tulsa does have a lot to offer if you dont need an Read More

Very Friendly City - 2/2/2006
I went to visit Tulsa recently, and found it to be a very hospitable town. People are outgoing and genuine. There's a lot of things to like about Tulsa. Everything is convenient, it's easy to get around the city, the climate is mild, and the cost of living is very low. It's a great place for recreation, given the number of reasonably priced golf courses, the water recreation area just to the west of Tulsa, and a nice casino just to the east. The only negatives are that it doesn't have an active downtown area and the job market is a bit thin, unless you're in the energy or aerospace Read More

Tulsa - America's Friendliest City - 1/25/2006
I have lived off and on for about 30 years in Tulsa, my time away was never by choice. I am originally from a small town 75 mildes south of Tulsa, called Coffeyville, Kansas. I consider Tulsa my second hometown. It has all the advantages of a very large city such as the ballet, concerts, shopping, cultural activities. It is an excellent city for young families and is also kind to the elderly and it is still small enough to travel around easily.

People that come here to Tulsa for the first time are always surprised by what they see, I think people tend to still think of Oklahoma as during the dust bowl days. Northeast Oklahoma where Tulsa is located is called Green Country and you will agree when you see all the hills, trees, flowers and in the spring and summer the hills are covered with green trees, bushes and grass. We have weather that covers the gaumet from hot summer, to cool spring with rain, to cool crisp autumn to cold snowy winters. And yes, we do get Read More
