A good place for Retirees - 9/16/2023
I lived in McMinnville for 4 years. The Air quality you listed for this quaint little town in a bit off. The Willamette Valley had some serious smoke issues from a Big fire that began in the Columbia Gorge near Hood River a few years ago. The winds carried the smoke straight down the Willamette Valley I-5 corridor and filled the Valley. This fire was a 1 in 500 year event. Not likely to happen again in our Lifetime. Granted the town does get particulate air pollution from nearby farms in the area. That is the primary cause of the pollutants. NOT surface level ozone. that only happens when the Valley has an Air stagnation advisory. About twice a month or so. The Culture and Arts it offers is pretty good for a Town of 38k. I recommend it for Retirees. There is a small private College there, Linfield College. Only adding to the Cultural value of this I-99 town. Along with the Aviation Museum with the Spruce Goose and I-Max Theater. A great getaway for Portlanders. I have Read More

O is For Odious - 4/21/2014
If it sounds too good to be true, chances are, it is. So it goes with "The People's Republic of Oregon", one of the most patently dishonest marketing labels ever applied to a state. Sure, there are areas in the city of Portland where minorities aren't harassed or beaten (with the exception of the southeast side, which is full of neo-fascist gangs). You can always find those in the more progressive sections of any major city in the U.S., but Oregon's reputation as a bastion of liberalism isn't grossly overrated - it's a total fraud.

The reality is, a large swath of Oregon is grotesquely backwards and suffused with something other than the spirit of progressive humanism. That "something" entails brutal Tea Party libertarianism, rampant alcoholism, meth labs, crime, child abuse and rogue fundamentalist Christian evangelism. It's that regressive conservatism which is largely responsible for the high unemployment rates, crime and health issues faced by Oregonians. The rest is Read More

My Home - 10/30/2009
I enjoy living here in the North west in Mcminnville, Oregon! It's clean, beautiful, and a more family oriented town! I miss my kids and some family in Central Valley California, Fresno State Bulldogs, Sal's Mexican food in Selma, the great agriculture that supplies all of the world, and the fact that it used to be my home and a Great home at that! However, politicians have messed that once great state up to the point of almost no return and it saddens me very Read More
