What BestPlaces Users Say about Hanover

Background:
Hanover, Pennsylvania is a small town located in the southern part of the state. It has a population of just over 15,000 people and is known for its charming downtown area and historic architecture. Many people are drawn to Hanover for its affordability and small-town atmosphere. However, there are also some drawbacks to living in this town, such as limited job opportunities and a lack of diversity.

Reviews:

1. From Anna K.: "I've lived in Hanover for over 20 years and it's a great place to raise a family. The schools are top-notch and there are plenty of community events for kids. However, there isn't much to do for young adults and job opportunities are scarce."

2. From John M.: "I moved to Hanover for a job opportunity and have been here for 5 years. While the cost of living is low, I've found it difficult to make friends and feel like an outsider in this tight-knit community. It's a nice place to settle down, but not the best for young professionals."

3. From Sarah B.: "Hanover has a lot of charm and history, but it also has its downsides. The downtown area is beautiful, but there's not much else to do here. It's also not very diverse and can feel a bit closed off."

4. From Mark T.: "I've lived in Hanover my whole life and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. It's a safe and friendly town where everyone knows each other. The cost of living is low and there's a strong sense of community. However, job opportunities are limited and you have to travel to bigger cities for more options."

If you want small town living, Hanover, PA is not the answer. In 1992, I would say that it was a small town with a lot of farm land surrounding the area. However, from 1992 to the present, the developers have come into Hanover and completely ruined it. It is so crowded, congested and the building does not seem to stop.

Because of the economy, my husband and I are stuck in Hanover because we are unable to sell our house (I blame that on all the new construction) or we would be getting out of town at the speed of a Cheetah!

hanover not a friendly place to live at all - 12/6/2008
having lived here in HANOVER ive come to conclude 2 things
1.the people are more ignorant then people in the big city
2.that the town is full of morons and i dont say that lightly

to prove my point i encourage all visitors to ask for directions when coming through upon doing this the norm responce will be "i don't know where such and such place is"
people hanover is not a big town at all im from baltimore and if asked for directions of that or a place u might be looking for i can give u general directions

now as for the ignorance of the people its not possible to give the number of times i've been in a good mood or just happy and have ruined by the foul stench of the snottyness or stupid of the citizens pf this town

think thricw be for moving here

The kind of place America needs more of - 12/19/2006
Hanover, PA (York County) is just a great place to live and raise a family. Home prices are reasonable, cost of living is low, and crime is very low. I am rather surprised that the crime stats listed on this website are so high - I wonder if it is because people in Hanover seem to report everything, which is a good thing. When relatives from the Philadelphia area visit, they laugh at the Police Briefs printed in the local paper because the crimes are so minor. Police protection in the Borough and surronding areas is superb.

This is like an old fashioned town. I know all of my neighbors and they know my family. We look out for each other. You can still conduct face to face business with the Borough. This is a great place and after living in 5 other places in 4 different states for at least a few months each, I would not want to raise my family anywhere else.Read More
