Charleston, South Carolina is a popular city known for its rich history, beautiful architecture, and vibrant food scene. It attracts many visitors each year, but what is it like to actually live there? To gain an understanding of the city from a resident's perspective, I have researched user reviews on bestplaces.net about living in Charleston.

According to user "Riley" who has lived in Charleston for 15 years, "Charleston is a great place to live. The food and the history are amazing and the people are friendly." Another user, "Caroline" shares her experience of relocating to Charleston and states, "I moved to Charleston over two years ago and can't imagine living anywhere else. The city is charming, the beaches are close, and there's always something to do." Both of these reviewers highlight the city's attractive qualities such as its food and history, as well as the welcoming community.

On the other hand, user "Joshua" has a different perspective and expresses his disappointment with the city. He writes, "Charleston is overrated. The cost of living is high and the traffic is terrible. It's crowded and there's not much to do outside of the touristy areas." This review sheds light on some of the downsides of living in Charleston, including the high cost of living and heavy traffic.

Finally, user "Jennifer" shares her positive experience as a young professional in Charleston, stating, "I moved to Charleston for a job opportunity and I'm so glad I did. There's a great work-life balance here and the social scene is lively." She also mentions the abundance of job opportunities in the city, making it an attractive place for young professionals.

In summary, user reviews on bestplaces.net paint a varied picture of living in Charleston, South Carolina. While some appreciate its charm, history, and community, others point out its drawbacks such as high cost of living and traffic. It seems to be a popular destination for young professionals looking for a good work-life balance and job opportunities. Ultimately, the decision to live in Charleston will depend on personal preferences and priorities.

A question about the attitudes of the people. - 7/12/2006
I have a question for people who live in the Charleston but moved there from other places, about the attitudes of the people of the area. Please forgive my ignorance but we are considering a move to the area and I am interested in finding out how welcoming the residents are towards New Yorkers... er Yankees (and Catholics). I don't know if a vacation would give us a true feeling for the people because, everyone is nice when you're spending money but when you settle down next to them they may not be so welcoming. It is also important because we have a 4 year old daughter and would not want her to have a difficult transition into a move like that. Thanks.
P.S. I won't mention that 2 of my relatives fought for the Read More

Anyone moved to Charleston from San Diego, CA? - 5/9/2006
My husband and I live in San Diego, CA and are looking for a place to move that is cultural, educated, full of the arts, has great people and very friendly. We have lived in San Antonio, TX, Pensacola, FL and Seattle, WA so we are used to adjusting to fast and slow paced areas. Anyone move from CA to SC and have comments on the experience? Or does anyone want to share their feelings about SC? We would love your input.
Also, we are a mixed couple. Will that be a problem in SC?

Info About Charleston - 3/26/2006
Charleston is a quaint historic town on the Wando River. Home to individually owned boutiques and the crabshack. Good place for a week vacation, otherwise, no point in coming. It floods two feet in downtown every time it rains, good place for umbrella lovers. Be prepared to flip your calendars back 200 years. Unless your great great grandfather was a confederate soldier you will not fit in. Good O'l boys political system and general way of thinking. Terrible schools. Mold, dust, bugs, etc. I moved here without allergies and after 2 months had to go on steroids so I could breathe. Hypocrytical church nuts. No night life. Everything closes at 5 pm and is usually closed on Sundays. Home to lawyers, teachers, banks, realtors, and doctors. All of which who pretend to be wealthy when they are far from it. Most of the neighborhoods and houses are "dumps in the ruff". Think again if you are pondering moving here. If you are interested in vacationing. Stay at the Charleston Place hotel, shop Read More
