Great place for retirement - 11/7/2010
Bought a home here 6 years ago in a community that has a section for over 55 yr old buyers. This is an affordable, good quality of life area. Conway is nicely located close to a major airport and close to the beach. There is also a steady stream of culture that comes through the Myrtle Beach area so there is a little bit for everyone. Housing has remained pretty stable although it has dipped like the rest of the country. I plan to use the area as a base of opperation to stay a few months out of the year and then to travel some.
There are a few drawbacks that you need to be aware of.... Many people come to the area in the summer for the beaches or the fall and spring for the golf which creates a little congestion and Rt 501 is one of the only pass throughs... There are a few new roads being built which will at least solve some of the congestion going north and south.... bit east and west will continue to be an issue for a few years.
