Shhhh, don’t spoil it! What a breath of fresh air! - 7/4/2018
This is from a south Orange County, lifelong Southern California girl who knows what a beautiful environment is like. Well - South Carolina made So Cal seem like such a desert (and Laguna Beach is awesome) and with so many drawbacks in CA nowadays for pretty much everything, I certainly welcomed seeing there’s beauty and life someplace else. I went in late June. It wasn’t too humid (like Florida or NY) so it wasn’t much warmer than CA. Plus the people were another breath of fresh air... so real and nice. The property values are on the rise but still affordable. There’s all kinds of lakes and water and boating and trees - oh the trees! Mother Nature went big! Speaking of big... Pickens has a gigantic, swapmeet, at a place they call the jockey lot, on Wednesday mornings. People come from all over the surrounding states and areas to buy and sell there. Pickens County, SC is a wonderful place to live, work and retire but the information you're posting regarding education is inaccurate.

First of all, our per pupil spending is $7891.

Our student/teacher ratio is 21:1.

Top graduates from our schools attend top schools such as Harvard and Yale, and a local organization called, "Manufacturers Caring for Pickens County", offers mentoring programs and apprenticeships forstudents who may not be pursuing a traditional college path.
