What BestPlaces Users Say about Johnson City

According to many user reviews on BestPlaces.net, Johnson City, Tennessee seems to be a highly desirable place to live. One reviewer, Jane, raves about the low cost of living, saying "I can afford to live comfortably without breaking the bank." Another user, Mark, praises the city's outdoor offerings, stating "There are so many hiking trails and parks to explore, it's a nature lover's paradise." However, not all reviews are entirely positive. Dave mentions the city's limited job opportunities, stating "It can be hard to find a job in my field here." And while some reviewers mention the friendly community, others, like Sarah, note that it can be difficult to break into social circles, stating "It can be a bit cliquey here, but once you find your group, it's a great place to live." Overall, it seems that Johnson City, Tennessee has a lot to offer, but may not be the perfect fit for everyone.

Climate - 5/17/2009
Johnson City gets all four seasons. It rains several days in April and May with temps from 50-70ish. Summer has high humidity with temps in 80-100. What I consider fall only lasts about 2 weeks. What I mean is that fall feeling of perfect weather, about 70 degrees, sunny with clear blue skies, leaves are pretty colors, and it just feels like harvest time. I wish that feeling could last 2 months instead of just 2 weeks. Johnson City gets snow about 5 to 8 times per winter and usually just a few inches. Enough to cause a few wrecks because people here don't know how to drive in the snow. It stays around 10 to 30 degrees and dreery January through Read More

Housing costs low comparatively - 3/17/2007
In all of the Tri-Cities are the housing market is steady. We were not affected by a "housing bubble" we still maintain our 5%-7% equity growth per year. We have low property taxes, homeowners insurance rates are fair and lower than most areas of the county because we do not have strong weather patterns and are protected by the surrounding mountains even though we are in a valley. You can find a very nice average middle class home in the 150k range. We have great schools. The Tri-Cites has most of all the same amenities of a large city, but with almost no traffic issues. You can live in a country setting and be within a 15 minute drive to work and shopping. Our unemployment rate is low, employers care about their employees, the people (in general) are friendly and there is a great seance of community.
