Austin as a pace to live - 12/31/2007
Austin is a good Tier-3 city. Decent economy, friendly people and lots of outdoor activities. But it is growing fast and out of its seams. I have lived here for over 9 years. Cost of living may have been an advantage 4 years ago but not anymore. Everything you buy has hidden taxes built into the sales price (because there is no state tax). We have high property taxes (higher than average educational taxes and yet lower than average per student spending).
Overall I think it is an expensive city that is about to get even more expensive (1 out of 5 cars on Mopac has a California plate).
Did I mention that I am planning to stay another 9

Life in Austin - 11/13/2007
I moved to Austin in 1970, when I was 18, and moved to San Francisco in 1989. I still have many friends in Austin, and recently went back to visit. From what I have seen, Austin has a better quality of life than SF or any city in CA. It is cleaner, friendlier, and generally more attractive. The culture may not be as sophisticated as in SF, but its charm lies in its refusal to knuckle under to what other people may consider sophisticated. Austin is a town with its own honest

The truth about Austin, Tx - 10/31/2007
If you are set on living in the state of Texas, Austin should be at or near the top of the list of places to live. Austin is not what it used to be and sadly is looking more and more like Houston. It is a fairly diverse city and for the most part the people are friendly. Highest cost of living in the state. Many college graduates are making $10-$13/hr in this town. UT students don't leave the city and employers take advantage of this by offering lower wages. Townlake near downtown is a nice place to walk and jog. Summers here are miserable unless you like taking 3 showers a day. The state history museum and IMAX theatre are pretty cool. "Music Capital of the World" is a little overrated. You be the judge of this town. Good

South Austin culture - 10/27/2007
I've lived in all parts of Austin since I came here to go to school in 1980. There are interesting neighborhoods all over the place, however as a whole South Austin is keeping the 'real' Austin alive in all the ways that count. We own a cool coffee shop called Cafe Caffeine and have no problem keeping things

The Beautiful City of Austin, Texas - 10/23/2007
This city has so many different places to spend time. If you're an outdoor person, consider the lakes, hike and bike trails, parks, and breathtaking views. The nightlife is incredible with bars, dance clubs, and live music. With so many different kinds of restaurants, you will be able to dine all over town and not eat at the same restaurant twice. Austin is definitely a wonderful place to visit, and to

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PLACE TO LIVE - 10/17/2007
Austin - stay away unless you got lots and lots of money to spend. Houses are getting bigger and bigger and gated communities dot the landscape everywhere, which means BIG BIG hefty property taxes to pay. Even moderate to low income homes come with a hefty property tax. Also, the Texans calculate property taxes in a drug-hazed mentality. Absolutely makes no sense. You'll be mad as a wet hen when you get your property taxes. Property taxes are through the roof and will only get worse. The food is Tex-Mex, Mexican, South of the Border food and some barbecue. Variety in food in lacking.Traffic is getting worse and people are driving like maniacs. If you hate hot weather - STAY AWAY. Skin cancer around Texas is high, so you need to look like a nun when going out in the sun for protection. Allergies - well lets see, Ragweed not good, and every other plant you've never heard of will keep your eyes watering, throat scratchy, and you just feel like hell. If you are in your 50's and above,

Quality Austin - 10/4/2007
Austin is a city with overall appeal. With its mixture of music, arts, food, outdoor activities, universities, and aire of acceptance for all people, Austin is a great place to live. Due to rapid growth in the area, the city is beginning to sprawl a bit, but outlying communities are attractive, and with light rail coming soon the city will still be accessible. It's a great place to
