Not the place - 5/13/2006
Austin is NOT the place to live if you are not Caucasian or Hispanic. There is nothing here to do for anyone of another ethnicity. The natives treat anyone of outside races like outsiders. Extremely prejudiced. Not welcoming at all!! Don't move here. You'll be better off in HELL!!! Can't wait to Read More

Moved here in Jan. and loving it - 5/13/2006
We moved to Austin in Jan. and absolutely love it here. We live in the norht east part of Round Rock. We live in the community called Terra Vista. We have a Troon golf course, club house and swimming pool/tot pool. Back home our communities didn't have as many amenities.
This part of Round Rock is just starting to be developed. There is an outlet mall and Ikea being built at our exit. I'm pretty excited about living in an area that is developing because property values can only go up.
As far as the drive to Austin. There is traffic but it does move. I'ld say it takes about 1/2 hour or so.
Georgetown is really cute! I just saw their downtown yesterday it sprawls for blocks not like the one block in Round Rock.
Good luck to all you Read More

Down Home Charm - 5/7/2006
We moved to Austin, Texas in May 2003 from the San Francisco Bay Area. We were looking for a change because we were tired of the Bay Area. It'd gotten too expensive, crowded and stressful.

Austin is a great city. The people are friendly and it's incredibly dog-friendly. I don't have any regrets about moving here. That said, the two major drawbacks are the heat in the summer and lack of reliable public transportation. You'd think coming from the BA I'd be used to driving a lot but I drive more here than I have in my 20+ years driving in CA. Go Read More

California to Austin - 5/1/2006
My husband daughter and I are considering relocating to Austin from the San Francisco Bay Area. Was considering Steiner Ranch, Round Rock and Cedar Park. We will be empty nesters soon, our little one is off to UT. Would like a neighborhood with a mixture of families and single adults. Interested in night life and recreation. Would like to know if anyone has made the move from California and what they think of Austin. We've been told it's not like any other city in Texas, much better. Ethnic diversity is extremely important to us. All information is greatly Read More

Live music capital - 4/25/2006
Yes; there are a ton of venues in Austin for a town of its size. I'm sure larger cities have just as many, but Austin is special in that can boast of a diverse group of venues when compared to cities like Houston or Dallas. I can say that Austin is a good move for the most part. Compared to the rest of TX, Austin is an oasis removed from hick Texas. I'm ready to leave Austin mainly because the allergies here are completely debilitating. Culture wise for ethnicity, you will find a little bit of everything and that is due to the fact that high tech here draws a diverse crowd. Austin info - 4/24/2006
My son and his wife plan to move to Austin later this year after he gets out of the service. Plans to attend UT Austin...and wife a special ed teacher. Residential area (apartment - but not all college kids) "close" to Univ and good school district best, but neighborhood quality matters. Grandbabies may be sooner in future than son's degree!
Any suggestions as to which direction from UT Austin to start from or avoid would be appreciated. azsuemac "at" yahoo.com. Thanks. Read More

Reclocating from Tucson to Austin - 4/24/2006
Lived in Tucson from late 70s to 2002. I miss it! Looking for information for my son and his wife - they are planning to move to Austin later this year when he leaves the Army. He plans to attend UT Austin and d-i-l has masters in special ed (early primary grades.) Ideal location would be "close" to both of course...they hope not to have to get a second car right away. But quality of area very important. Since I'll be visiting alot (!)...and grandbabies may be closer in the future than son's graduation...I think more of a mixed area rather than college is they way to go.

Any assistance/suggestions are greatly appreciated.
