Things to Consider Before Making Your Move - 5/7/2013
I have lived in Austin for the last two years. Before that, Phoenix, a Houston suburb, an Alabama beach town, a small city in north Alabama, and a tiny village in Louisiana; so my previous living experiences have varied in size, location, and culture, which I think allows me to be relatively unbiased in my review. Austin's motto is Keep Austin Weird. If you are Southern or Texan, you will likely agree that Austin is "weird". However, if you are from a similar sized (or larger) city in the western U.S., Austin will probably seem pretty normal. What makes us "weird" is that we are a very liberal culture right in the center of Texas, a highly reserved, republican state. Compared to typical Texan and Southern culture, we are very green (plastic bag bans and such); yet West coasters find us to be wasteful (poor public transportation system). The city is a good manageable size regarding layout and population, however, we seem to have really long red-lights, no HOV lanes, limited

Wow, this site has really gone downhill lately. - 4/26/2013
1) Having to refresh page every time you enter a value is stupid.
2) Hitting enter when trying t compare cities take you to main page.
3) Not sure where you're getting your stats but many (that I can verify) are just plain wrong. And, again, those are just the ones I know of. Probably, I am reading many more that are wrong and not even realizing it. Rendering this whole website questionable and basically worthless as I cannot trust the stats any more.
For instance: Austin, Texas does not have 97.99% Non-Hispanic Whites.
That's just ridiculous and anyone who is from this region knows that to be just grossly inaccurate. Even a perfunctory glance at the census data will confirm this.
Bert, I understand if you're out of the publishing game and refusing to publish any more books... but letting your website publish faulty information really does a disservice to everyone. Either take the site down or correct the information.

Don't Believe All the Good Hype About Austin. - 4/16/2013
I will start off by saying there are good things and bad things about Austin. Things I would stay for and things that really makes me realize that Austin being touted as one of the best cities to live in, and most creative cities, is not true. Austin is probably one of the best cities to live in Texas, I'll give it that, but not the U.S. First of all, Austin is expensive. It is not expensive compared to CA but it is expensive compared to the rest of the U.S. If you are moving here from CA you may marvel at how much cheaper it is...but, within about a month or so you will realize that it is not that much cheaper and does not offer even a fraction of the opportunities that a city like LA, San Fransisco or New York City offer. They are trying to talk it up like it is a new Tech and Entertainment hub...ha, that is a joke. Clearly they've never been to LA, SF or NYC. Most of the big U.S. cities (D.C., Philly, Chicago, Boston, etc.) offer WAY more opportunities if you are in a creative

Hated it in Austin - 4/15/2013
I used to live there I hated it there because of the weather was so hot all the time. Traffic is awful. No sight seeing to see leaving Austin. People are ok there are some nice ones around. Drivers are rude. I don't know what's so special about Austin but I am not a big fan of Texas or anywhere in Texas. I am more of a west coast person. Glad I move out of Texas I don't care if you don't agree with me I just don't like Texas because it's boring and hot all the time and can't do anything for fun outside. Good foods there and many good restaurants but that about it. Downtown is ok but not very impressive . Visit other parts of this country like Hawaii, northern California, Oregon, and Washington state and then you will understand why I like those states

Size - 4/6/2013
Austin is a great size - traffic is a non-issue when compared to other us cities, although growth is going to change tat over time. Surprisingly broad variety of music & sports events, culture, shows, restaurants and outdoor activities for a city the size of Austin. Lots to do, but not over crowded and relatively inexpensive.

Why is this City so high on Recommended Places to - 10/23/2012
Granted there may be some jobs here, but with all the publicity I think most of those are taken. Kids graduating from College are not finding jobs like you would think. Austin has good and bad areas and is suffering badly from growing pains! The most horrendous traffic I have ever lived in and the place just keeps growing. Housing, Housing everywhere and they all want Austin's Entertainment, so everything is crowded, including the shopping. This is the best Texas can do for a progressive city, and still the attitudes are backwards and condescending. Texas is a very RED state so even in Austin, beware if you don't want racism and sexism. It does exist! The music and art scene is nice, and the outdoor activities. I do not find this one of the best places to live in the country, and I don't know how it rates so high on so many lists! Did I mention Traffic! The traffic is horrendous. Lastly is the property tax. Since there is no sales tax, then the state has raised the price on everything
