What BestPlaces Users Say about Denison

Denison, Texas is a small city located in Grayson County, about an hour north of Dallas. With a population of just over 24,000, it offers a charming small-town atmosphere with a close-knit community. The city is known for its beautiful parks, outdoor recreation opportunities, and historic downtown area. It also has a low cost of living compared to other cities in Texas, making it an attractive option for families and retirees. However, it does have its drawbacks, such as hot summers and limited job opportunities. Now, let's take a look at what actual residents have to say about living in Denison.

"Living in Denison has been a wonderful experience. The people are friendly and welcoming, and there is always something fun to do, especially during the summer months. The only downside is the lack of job opportunities, but the low cost of living makes up for it." - Mark W.

"I moved to Denison about 5 years ago and I absolutely love it here. It's a beautiful city with great schools and parks for families. The downtown area is full of character and there are always events going on. The only thing I would change is the weather, it can get pretty hot in the summer." - Sarah B.

"I've lived in Denison my whole life and I can't imagine living anywhere else. It's a small town where everyone knows each other, and I feel safe and comfortable here. However, it can feel a bit isolated at times and there aren't a lot of job opportunities, so it may not be the best place for career advancement." - John D.

"Denison is a great place to retire. The cost of living is low and the community is very active and welcoming to retirees. There are also many retirement communities and activities geared towards seniors. The only downside is that there isn't much to do for young adults, so it may not be the best fit for them." - Linda M.

what can I say... - 7/21/2009
I grew up here and left over 30 years ago. Back then there was a promise (a hope, spark) that Dallas would be here soon... that stopped in Sherman. The town does not know how to grow. There was a surge downtown in the mid-90s to create an arts district. That died when Tortorichi made his million in real estate and moved to Costa Rica. The people couldn't save the most important piece of architecture ( the old high school) from the wrecking ball. There is a small group of artists and thinking people that live Read More

Rural small-town mentality - 11/13/2007
Denison is not far removed from the old west cowboy culture. Jeans, boots and baseball hats are the dress for everything. The downtown area closes at 5 p.m. Road signs are targets for passing pick-up trucks. Lost or abandoned pets are caged for three days, then killed. We've lived here 6 years and are just discovering how deep-rooted the good-old-boy culture remains. It may seem quaint for a few years, but don't expect much progress if you Read More

Change of Season - 5/4/2007
Denison definitely has four seasons, although the spring and fall can sometimes be brief. Temperatures in the summer can soar above 100 while winter usually always includes at least one snow fall with below freezing temperatures. Spring celebrates the arrival of many different types of wildflowers along the roadside. Fall color is not as spectacular as say the mountain areas or the northern states, but we do have Read More
