Don't move here, just don't - 8/26/2021
I've lived here for the majority of my life and the only good thing about this place is the low cost of living. This is where people come to rot, it's extremely depressing. There is absolutely nothing to do in this town, It will get boring very quickly. There are no opportunities to advance in your career or even in life. The people here are uhh interesting, not in a good way. In my experience older people are nice and younger people are extreamly rude and awful, but I guess it just depends on who you are. The weather is absolutely awful it gets so hot that you don't even want to go outside. Schools and health care are laughable don't even bother with Read More

NIGHTMARE TOWN. - 6/5/2019
I'll try to start this out by saying something nice.

Edinburg has a very low cost of living. Also, it is centered around UTRGV, a 4-year university with some of the lowest tuition rates in the state. Plus, if you like warm weather, the climate is consistently hot and dry. Personally, I like that kind of weather. But, that's the extent of the positives.

Beyond that, I have nothing nice to say. Anyone who moves here will quickly see beyond the small-town charm and reality will set in. The people living here are some of the most ignorant, nasty, bigoted people you will ever meet. Anyone who is not Hispanic and does not speak Spanish will face discrimination. To put this into perspective, I once applied for a job and, during the interview, I was told point-blank "Sorry, we only hire Hispanics". Yes, this is highly illegal and I went right to the EEOC about this. But that's not the point. The fact that they are willing to commit such blatantly illegal acts to Read More

Little Mexico - 11/1/2009
Edinburg is 95 percent Hispanic, which tells you a lot. People down here talk about cultural diversity. WHAT diversity? There is a large number of illegal immigrants which drain the schools and welfare. there isn't much to do in this town but at least it is close to McAllen, which has a large number of restaurants and stores. The summers here are extremely long and it rains very little. The winter is pleasant. No opportunity unless you want to work a minimum wage job. The people aren't very friendly and customer service is very Read More

Not Much Here - 10/22/2009
Edinburg and the whole Rio Grande Valley is a very unique place, but mostly not in a good way. There are so many illegal immigrants here that often I am not sure if this is Southern Texas or Northern Mexico. A lot of property crime and the people are not very friendly. You will find terrible service at most stores with some employees not even speaking English. The summers are hot, of course, like the rest of Texas, but they last six or seven months. You will get basically no rain except for the occassion hurricane. You will also find that you are a good four hour drive from any major city. No college sports to speak of. The only people who seem to like it here are the ones who were born here and have lived here all their lives. I guess they just don't know any Read More
