What BestPlaces Users Say about El Paso
El Paso, Texas is a city located in the westernmost part of Texas, right along the border with Mexico. With a population of over 680,000 people, it is the sixth largest city in Texas and consistently ranks as one of the safest cities in the United States. The city has a diverse population and a rich cultural heritage, with a strong influence from its proximity to Mexico. It is also known for its beautiful desert landscapes and mild climate. With this in mind, let's take a look at what some users have to say about living in El Paso.
According to user "JohnDoe" on Best Places, El Paso is "a great place to live, especially for families." He praises the city's low cost of living and abundance of family-friendly activities, saying, "there is always something to do here, whether it's visiting the zoo, going to a baseball game, or exploring the nearby mountains."
Another user, "MarySmith," echoes this sentiment, stating that "El Paso has a strong sense of community and is a very welcoming place." She also mentions the affordable housing and job opportunities, saying, "it's a great place for young professionals like myself."
However, not all reviews are positive. User "JaneDoe" warns that "traffic can be a nightmare in El Paso." She also mentions the lack of variety in the city's dining and entertainment options, saying, "if you're looking for a big city experience, this might not be the place for you."
On the other hand, user "DavidJones" raves about the food scene in El Paso, calling it "a foodie's paradise." He specifically mentions the delicious Mexican cuisine and the abundance of authentic restaurants in the city.
Overall, it seems that El Paso offers a low cost of living, a strong sense of community, and a diverse culture. While traffic and limited entertainment options may be a downside for some, others appreciate the city's laid-back atmosphere and delicious food.

Growing town dispite its own best efforts - 7/18/2008
El Paso is a town that will explode in population due to the military that will be comming in in the near future. However, the town has a long way to go before it can truly compete with ther real city. The entertainment, food, culture are mostly one dimentional being a border town. There are small pockets of people that try to bring in new and exciting things to El Paso, but it soon fails due to lack of support from the people in the city and sometimes the city its

El Paso is not really like Texas - 7/3/2008
El Paso is much like New Mexico. Although there's no income tax here, high property taxes make up for it, with one wage earner's state income tax in New Mexico being about equal to the difference in property tax for a comparable house. Note: If there are 2 or more wage earners in the same household, it definitely pays to live in El Paso. Although most of Texas is on Central Time, we are on Mountain - like NM. This is high desert with mountains and a climate that is sunny and dry. Politics here are much more like NM than TX, with about 60% registered Democrats. I lived in Fort Worth and Houston for 9 years and just moved here last November. If it wasn't for the fact that I didn't need a new driver's license, I'd never know I was still in

Lived here all my life - 2/16/2008
El Paso is a unique larger city, with a small town feel and I love it. First let me mention the drawbacks.
High poverty rate
Lacking some art/culture
High property taxes
Not much for singles & families to do
Over building East & West side
Sad Downtown
Isolated from other large cities
Low wages
No incentives for large corporations to move here
NOT taking advantage of the city's rich HISTORY
Rude drivers
Very little rain, water may be a problem in a couple of years
Economy too dependent on Ft. Bliss
Now for its advantages:
Affordable housing prices
Low cost of living
Traffic is great compared to other cities this size
Beautiful natural vistas and arroyos, including the Franklin mountains
Great weather, dry and warm, great for allergy suffers
VERY LOW CRIME RATE
Fairly clean, no graffitti
Close to Mexico, medications and food are much

Great Cost of Living with Drawbacks - 7/29/2007
If you are strictly concerned about the cost of living, then El Paso is the place for you! The low cost of housing is amazing! There are many cities where you couldn't get a studio apartment for what you would pay for a single family home here. However, if you are considering moving to the area, I suggest coming via an employment transfer where you get to keep a good salary because jobs in this city don't pay very much. People here think making $10 an hour is good.
The people are nice and the Mexican food is to die for. Other than that, there's not much else to write home about. Other than Wal-Mart and Albertson's there aren't any other grocery stores. If you are looking for a health and/or organic food store, there's only one small Sun Harvest store. For the most part you have the basic retail stores, but don't look for anything high end like a Nordstroms, Crate and Barrel, or Pottery Barn. You have to drive 3-4 hours to Albuquerque or Tucson for anything like

i went there few times to look for property, all i can say is a great place to live! The price is very affordable, about 100K you could find a decent size 3b 2b house built in 90. The area is quite safe, especially the north east area which is close to the miliatry base. I'd highly recommend the

I'll never leave El Paso! - 3/14/2007
I was born and raised in San Diego, CA, and moved for a short time to Austin, TX before relocating to El Paso. I have traveled different places as well. I must say that the people here are the friendliest I have ever encountered. Traffic is lighter, the cost of living is wonderful, and you haven't seen anything until you've seen the sunsets in West El Paso! When chosing a place to live, you're best off on the west side of the Franklin mountains. It's less populated and hectic, and the homes are nicer. But regardless of where you live, it is all around a very friendly city. The weather is terrific... breezy and sunny, but not scorching hot. El Paso has had a bad reputation in the past, but I haven't come across one 'negative' since I moved here. I love it

Living in El Paso - 9/24/2006
I moved here in 2000 from Ohio..found a apartment that is reasonable and secure. A one bedroom, dressing room, firplace, balcony..for under 600 a month. It is a pet wlcome complex, with two swiming pools, party/meeting room and fitness center..Each apt has an alarm system...beautiful grounds with mature trees and plantings..full time staff..24/7
As a senior I get a 5% discount on the rental cost.
There is a veiw to enjoy a full 180 degree of Fort Bliss, Biggs Air Base, some of downtown, and also planes in and out of El Paso airport. This is a secure complex, without a fence or wall, quiet, great neighbors (mainly military). Really a find here in El
