Great value - 11/28/2007
Let me first state that I moved here from California. I was born & raised in Southern CA (my folks are Texans) and lived briefly ('03 - '06) in Northern CA. It goes without saying that nearly everything is cheaper here. Houses are cheaper, groceries, gas, taxes and probably a few more things I can't think of now. Houses range from $150K to the millions, $200K to $300 will net you a pretty decent home with a lot of bells and whistles. There's not much in the way of scenic views. I grew up in the shadow of the San Bernardino Mountains (yeah, the ones that burned), but honestly half the time you couldn't see them because of the smog/haze. Here there are definitely more trees and open spaces. The city of Flower Mound seems to have their act together. There are miles of city trails and tons of parks. The schools are very highly rated and local Marcus High School has a top notch band and football program.

Conservative politics, active voters - 5/9/2006
Flower Mound is one of the most conservative communities in one of the most conservative counties (Denton) in perhaps the most conservative major metropolitan area in the country. The area was home to former U.S. House Majority Leader Dick Armey for two decades. The GOP primary is the de facto election, since few Democrats choose to run.

Local politics are much more interesting. Rural areas of the county are increasingly being coveted by homebuilders and commercial developers, which means there's an ever-present battle between developers and those who want to preserve a quieter life in the Read More

What I like about Flower Mound is the low crime rate and easy access to DFW airport and nearly anywhere in the metroplex. Very nice neighborhoods, outstanding public schools and several high-quality Christian schools in the area. Good family, kid-friendly environment.

Ok place - 4/13/2006
I've lived in Flower Mound pretty much my whole life, and don't really have any complaints. However, it's growing extremely fast. There's so much more traffic now, I hardly even recognize it. Flower Mound may be alright, but I'm getting out of TX. Can't stand most of the nearby cities, or the Read More

Schools - 1/25/2006
I teach at Flower Mound High School in Flower Mound, Texas.
The education system is good to great depending on the classroom teacher your student might get. The facilities are of the highest quality. Most people in Flower Mound are professionals. Many if not most of the homes range in the $200,000 range up to millions of dollars. Many airline pilots and doctors live in the area as well as many successful business people. It is a very Republican area. It can also be very cliquish. The people are nice, if you fit in. The schools are completely safe. I would feel very comfortable leaving my classroom door unlocked all day with no one in it and leave some valuables around. Crime is non-existant in Flower Mound. Fights at school do not exist.
It attempts to be very academic and is to a certain extent.
We have brilliant students and great teachers. That is what makes our school so great. But, the underlying philosophy behind the administration is "do not upset Read More
