Older Original Neighborhoods Around the Old Downto - 8/21/2015
I was raised in Dallas and have been gone many years. I want to relocate and retire in Lewisville. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a home and don't want a bigger home, so all the fancy ones I see on all the realtors' sites are too costly and too big.

On Google maps I looked around the downtown area for the old homes that were there when it was a small town and not a suburb. They still exist and are cute and just what I need, but I don't see them on ANY realtors' sites.

Does anyone know what the deal it? Don't these homes ever go on sale?

Thanks for any help,Read More

Lewisville? - 4/24/2012
We moved here about 7 months ago to take a job that my husband was offered. We came from the Hampton Roads area and we chose to take a job in Texas because of the temperature, housing, cost of living, and other reasons. In some ways, the area is a little cheaper, such as beef, milk, and a lot of produce. The gas is a little cheaper, but, electric is expensive, and some other things as well. In order to go to a lot of area, quickly and directly, there are a lot of toll roads that are even a little more than what we paid driving in the Chicago area. All in all though, it seems like a great place. The school system is pretty good. My biggest complant is that there are a lot of doctors that don't take any type of Medicare, Tricare, Cigna, and a few others. There are also a lot of doctors that don't accept any insurance at Read More

Great Place for the Money - 4/18/2010
This is a great place to live for the money and yes it is one of the more affordable communities north of Dallas and its only getting better. First this is a great place to raise a family and small town atmosphere even though the population is pushing 100,000. Second there is a lot of shopping within the city around Vista Ridge Mall or on Main Street and areas close by like Grapevine Mills Mall and the new shopping area out in Flower Mound/Highland Village area. Third Public Transportation is still pretty new here but growing rapidly you can currently catch the DCTA express bus to Dallas at the Cinemark Theatre off of Rockbrook Drive north of Vista Ridge Mall and as I post this the Dart and DCTA rail line is being developed including two DCTA rail stations one near Old town off of Main Street and the other off off Hebron Pkwy just east of I35. There are more running and bike trails being developed as well. It is about as pedestrian friendly here as any other nice or nicer suburb Read More

Not perfect but really great place - 3/28/2010
I believe this is a great place to live north of Dallas for the money since I been here 5+ years, its still safe and reasonable whether you rent a house, apartment or townhouse or buy a house/townhouse and you will find that this area especially older areas are starting to improve. Our neighborhood one of the old Fox and Jacobs neighborhoods is getting water, sewage, and street improvements right now. New housing options are either apartments or townhomes the exception is out in Castle Hills addition which is between Carrollton and The Colony which is basically upscale mansions. In regards to people saying there are no places where people can ride their bikes or there are no bike lanes that has improved now that there are more bike trails than there were about 2-3 years ago. You can enjoy Central Park which has the Timber Creek trail that I believe goes about 2 miles about one mile each direction you just need to go to the city website and look under park and recreation for other Read More

Great cost of living, nothing else really stands o - 7/27/2008
Let me start by saying the best quality that the area has (and most of the surrounding area, for that matter) is the cost of living. It is as great as everyone says it is. After saying that, if you like to eat out and shop, the Lewisville (and DFW) area is for you. There are tons of places to eat, mostly chain restaurants, but quite a few places that aren't. And the DFW area is overrun with massive malls and plenty of shopping.

Aside from that, nearly everyone drives horrendously bad (the worst thing I hate about this area), has a huge Truck or SUV, and is overweight. Lewisville Lake is one of the deadliest lakes in the nation because the boating habits are as bad as the driving habits it seems. Check out a map sometime so you can see how Interstate 35 runs through Denton, Dallas (35E), Fort Worth (35W), Waco, Austin, and San Antonio. Just try to imagine how much traffic runs along 35, with the overwhelming amount of cargo carrying trucks and poor public transportation Read More

From winter straight to summer - 3/11/2007
I've lived in Lewisville, Texas for 15 years and spring is nearly non-existant here. The temraptures go from cold straight to hot. The mild days of spring are few and far between. Ditto for fall. From summer heat then suddenly it's winter. I want to move away since the heat is terrible.
The temp gauge may read in the upper 90's but it feels in Read More

Citizen Involvement - 10/31/2005
Lewisville offers numerous ways for citizens to become familiar and involved in their community. Citizens Police Academy, a free 12 week course, offers insight and up-close opportunities to know your police department. Keep Lewisville Beautiful allows citizens or groups to adopt a favoriet or prominent spot to keep picked up and even planted with flowers.
It's a great small-town feeling kind of Read More
