Round Rock, Texas is a rapidly growing city located just north of Austin. With a population of over 130,000, it offers a suburban feel with plenty of job opportunities and amenities. It is known for its excellent school district and low crime rates, making it a popular choice for families. However, like any city, there are pros and cons to living in Round Rock. Let's take a look at what some users have to say about their experience living in this particular place.

User Reviews:
1) "Round Rock is a great place to raise a family. The schools are top-notch and there are always fun community events to attend. However, traffic can be a nightmare during rush hour." - Sally456

Round Rock - 3/19/2007
Everyone so far has sung praises about Round Rock but these people have not (were not) here all that long.

I have lived here almost 15 years. I live just south of Tera Vista subdivision.

If you ask me, go to Raleigh and stay away from Round Rock.
I was here before there was a Tera Vista.

Round Rock has been (at least since 1990)the fastest growing small town in the country. The population then was about 25K. It is now about 85k and by the 2010 census I would say it will be over 100k. A 400% population growth in just 20 years. With this comes extreme growing pains. Every major thoroughfare is under construction/destruction at the same time thus taking years to complete. Traffic tie-ups are common (although on a much smaller scale than say Houston-- I was there for 14 years prior to coming to Round Rock).

They are right. There almost no trees, especially large ones. East Texas, especially North-East does have some large trees. So Read More

LOVED Round Rock - 2/5/2007
I lived in Round Rock for only 6 months and it was GREAT. We had to move away for job reasons and I am so sad. The growth there is amazing and the cities of Austin and the suburbs have stepped up to build more highways and roads. It is amazing how fast they go up. I loved the variety of restaurants and things to do close by(loved the Round Rock Express basball games). Austin is only a 20 minute drive away. However if you ask the locals they think it is far away. I don't think they are used to "suburbs." Which is all the more charming. The schools are great as is the weather. Sure it is hot but believe it or not the northerner in me kind of got used to it. Plus most housing communities have pools so we all stay cool in the summer that way. I lived in a community called Tera Vista and if I were to move back(fingers crossed) I would move back there.
The only thing that was different from Michigan and Philly(where I am now) is the green. There really aren't the big Read More

Round Rock is a very nice place to live. - 1/8/2007
We lived in Round Rock for 3 years, and I wish we never left. It is sunny and warm almost all the time (but not humid), the schools are excellent, the cost of living reasonable, and let me tell you what, you can't get a better deal ANYWHERE for brand new housing! Well, maybe you can, but I sure haven't found it. It is a short drive to Austin, but there's plenty of shopping, movies, etc. in Round Rock and neighboring Cedar Park. The city is clean and crisp looking. Another thing I liked is that MANY of the neighborhoods have their own pools and parks. Association fees are not that much. People complain about the property taxes, which are high, but even with those added in, housing is very reasonable. Crime is virtually non-existant. I mean, sure there is some, but that's everywhere. If you are not from Texas, you will find that you fall in love with breakfast tacos, Mexican food, and BBQ when you get there. Trust me, you will!

There are only two negatives I can Read More

Round Rock, Tx. - 6/22/2006
Round Rock, Tx. was a small town that is experiencing dramatic growth in
businesses and population. Along with that growth comes the traffic increase
and the loss of the small town feel. Housing is still affordable, and the
school system is rated as one of the best. Currently, we are experiencing
a lot of highway construction which will allow for further growth in the
near future. Austin is only 20 miles or so from Round Rock and that makes
the town an ideal place to live and commute to the state capitol and the
University of Texas, as well as the many high-tech firms in the area. Lake
Travis and the other neighboring lakes make this area good for recreationalRead More
