What BestPlaces Users Say about The Woodlands

The Woodlands, Texas is a master-planned community just north of Houston that is known for its scenic nature trails, top-rated schools, and family-friendly atmosphere. With a population of over 116,000, it has been consistently ranked as one of the best places to live in Texas. However, as with any city, there are mixed opinions about living in The Woodlands. In this context, I will summarize user reviews from BestPlaces.net to provide a well-rounded perspective on the experiences of living in this particular place.

According to user reviews on BestPlaces.net, The Woodlands is praised for its beautiful surroundings and strong sense of community. One user, Sarah, describes it as "a wonderful place to raise a family with its safe neighborhoods, great schools, and endless outdoor activities." Another user, John, adds that "the trees and greenery give it a peaceful and serene atmosphere, making it a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city." On the other hand, some users expressed concerns about the cost of living in The Woodlands. As Jake notes, "housing prices are on the higher end and property taxes can be quite steep." Similarly, another user named Kelly mentions that "the cost of living is definitely a downside, with high grocery prices and expensive entertainment options." Despite these concerns, many users still recommend The Woodlands as a great place to live. As Mary states, "the benefits of living here outweigh the costs, with great schools, a low crime rate, and plenty of activities for families to enjoy." Overall, it seems that The Woodlands offers a unique blend of suburban comfort and natural beauty, making it a desirable place to call home for many.

Has It All and Then More - 5/19/2024
The Woodlands is like nowhere I've ever lived before. The neighborhoods are tucked away in woods and often very quiet. There are greenbelts and some amazing walking trails (check out George Mitchell Preserve). Several dog parks for dog owners as well as a lot of pools. There is a lot to physically do and staying in shape here is pretty easy, except in the summer when it's hotter than hell.

Outside of the neighborhoods, there is a waterway with restaurants and shops all along the water. Also, there are a lot of companies located in The Woodlands and the office spaces are really pretty. The roadways are lovely and wooded, but maybe too wooded in some places as you can't always tell where things are because they're hidden behind trees.

The biggest con I would say about the area is that it's very expensive to live here. There are tons of upscale restaurants and shops, but if you don't have money flowing, you might not be able to partake in everything there is to Read More

The Woodlands has lost its glory - 8/28/2019
I moved to The Woodlands in 1993. Then it was a safe place to live and great place to raise children. Today however beautiful forest, restaurant's and shopping it's not the same. I moved away in 2008 returning in (job) 2015. My husband and I were just sick to see that The Woodlands has lost her glory. Its once beautiful fancy Mall, clean water and running boats had come to a nasty halt surrounded by big city garages, and the feeling of excitement in the air has gone. Greedy developers have destroyed this once perfectly exciting place to live. Still much natural beauty is here but the high crime that never existed is here to stay with the overly crowded and hostile attitudes its definitely not what Mitchell had planned Read More

Education is fouled - 9/27/2015
Some parents rave about the education system here but more and more parents are home schooling in our area. The ones that rave about it are the ones who are enjoying their child being forced to memorize lessons and the kids who can handle the high stress and all the extra home work that is given to the child, regardless if you know the work or not. We have several home schools opening in the recent years. The schools just pass children to the next level to keep their exemplary ratings. My son was 2 grade levels behind in L.A. and was just passed to the next grade level without any thought as to how much it was hurting him. Private schools in the area cost $20,000 + a year, only the wealthy can pay for that. Read More

The Woodlands, TX - 7/5/2014
Great place. Multitude of things to do here. We even have an iceskating rink during the Holidays. The Pavillion regularly attracts national talent and is second to one. Recently, I've seen James Taylor and Van Morrison there. Bruce Springsteen was there in May ... it was his only stop in Texas. Terrific restaurants. Over 100 miles of hike and bike trails. Stable housing market and great schools. This is a great place to live -- clearly the top choice for the Houston area. Exxon Mobile apparently thinks so as it is moving its operational headquarters here. Many other top companies are headquartered here, including Chicago Bridge and Iron, US Oncology, Anadarko Petroleum and Huntsman Read More

Wonderful Woodlands - 9/11/2013
The Woodlands is not Conroe. Clear Lake is over an hour away. The Woodlands is a community itself, full of beautiful neighborhoods, every kind of shopping, businesses big and small. It is pet friendly, offers walking paths, marathons, Iron Man Competitions, professional golf tournaments, water sports and an outdoor pavilion with shows ALL the time. Seriously! What will get you though are allergies and HOA fees. Don't forget about the heat, humidity and electric bills. Aside from those nuisances it is really a nice place to be. Read More

what is the quality of life - 1/31/2012
do the people in The Woodlands tend to complain about their neighbors and call the police for minor things a lot? We lived in El Lago (near Clear Lake) and the people seemed like they were very paranoid, even though crime was nonexistent. They reported anything they did not like to the police even if it was not in code violation. We are considering The Woodlands but don't want to be in a neighborhood like El Lago. We are active and don't have kids. We are also considering Montrose or The Heights but property is very expensive for what you get. We grew up in suburbs and like the big Read More
