Chesapeake is a semi-rural suburb of Portsmouth and Norfolk, just west of Virginia Beach and just north of North Carolina. It is safe, has good schools, and has a quiet and comfortable feel. 7 Cities: Great Place to be Single - 3/20/2006
Living in Chesapeake for a couple of years was great. It is a great city with a lower cost of living (depending on what side you are on, I was living in the Deep Creek area). We had Great neighbors in our area!!! Even though we were living out of the metro area we were only a few minutes away from downtown Norfolk. The water front was a hop and a skip (no jump required) away and offered everything from Tides Baseball, to lots-o-bars, to concerts and movies. VA Beach was just down the interstate 20 minutes or so with beaches and bars wating. North Carolina was just a short drive south (maybe 10-15 miles). There was ALWAYS somthing to do, and people to meet! Having the world's largest Naval Base and an Army and Airforce base close by, the 7 Cities has residents from all over the country. Best schools in south eastern Virginia
15 minutes from the "City" - Broadway plays, restauarants, museums etc
25 minutes from the Virginia Beach or North Carolina outer banks beaches
Fairly conservative area; lots of churches
Chesapeake was nothing but farm land 20 years ago. Today, its full of sub divisions and "suburb" feel. Great community to raise children in. Not in the city, but close to everything.
