Too Much Government!!! - 4/27/2006
Yes, there is such a thing! So much beauracracy involved in even the simplest task that living under a bridge is an attractive option! Seems they've devised long complicated processes in order to justify the existence of all the government agencies

Virginia Beach in a nutshell - 4/17/2006
Here is my take on Virginia Beach (many categories covered). Naturally, I've written from my point of view (a divorced female (30+) with a 13-year old daughter). Enjoy!
=== Climate. It's a bit humid here, but not much snow. If you're from New England (which I am), you'll find yourself chuckling a bit when school is closed (and work delayed) due to a little more than a dusting. The most interesting about the weather in Virginia Beach is the diversity. You can be under a raincloud and your friend 5 miles away is tanning outside. One motto around here is "if you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes". It's true.
=== Cost of Living. I am rather pleased with the prices here. Virginia Beach is a resort area - but the prices aren't outrageous. House prices soared in 2005, but beyond that ... I think the cost of living is reasonable.
=== Crime. Okay, no matter where you go, there's crime. I'd suggest checking this site's Neighborhood profile for

Move Anywhere But Here - 2/22/2006
We moved here from out of state almost a year ago - voluntarily, not military. Unfortunately we have never met such rude and selfish people anywhere. Depending on the area in Hampton Roads that you move to, watch out for bad-I-don't-give-a-d**n attitudes, hostility, and lots of voluntary social segregation. Also watch out for racially segregated churches (um, Jesus loves *all* people, right?) and people who smile to your face but care nothing for you if you're not the "right" color. We're a multicultural family and the fact that everyone from doctors to libraries assumes everyone is one race on their intake forms is ridiculous - see the 2000 Federal Census form, there are TWO MILLION of us and this is 2006, not 1965!!! Talk about backward! We're outta here the first chance we get...the sooner the

What a joke - 1/30/2006
The whole Hampton Roads area is a joke.
The economy is completely built around blue collar government contracting, the military, and tourism, none of which contribute to a healthy economic situation. If you arent in the service, or work at the ship yards, youre probably working at Burger King, or cleaning hotels because that represents the majority of available employment. This area has little to no use for college graduates. Its no wonder the majority of the grads from the abundance of local colleges move away. Maybe the area should have taken a cue from the research triangle in North Carolina about how to attract real jobs, and not McJobs, so your college grads stay around and dont filter out.
Housing is completely unaffordable for the average citizen. It is not uncommon to see households spending well over 50% of their income on interest only mortgages.
The schools are terrible. Every public school in Norfolk, Chesapeake,
