Beautiful Emerald City - 5/29/2017
Geographically, Seattle is one of the most beautiful
cities in the country. Mountains to the west and east, a volcano to the south, and surrounded by water on a clear day it's stunning! And that's where some folks get hung up, clear days free of cloud cover are rare during the winter. But, when the sun pops out ones appreciation for the beauty is heightened.
Art, theatre, opera, symphony, music of all kinds and food galore also make Seattle a great place to live or visit.
Housing is pricey and getting worse, jobs are pretty abundant - Boeing, Microsoft, Amazon, Starbucks, REI, UW, and a host of innovative entrepreneurs and mid to small businesses.
I've been living here for 16 years and don't plan on leaving any time soon.

Beautiful City with Clean Air & Rel Low Crime - 4/7/2017
A Biased Opinion (I'm a Seattlite, originally from the Portland, OR area):
I moved to Seattle after graduating from a Washington State college, Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA (basically Canada). I've been here for almost 8 years. Overall, I would say Seattle did take some getting used to as the residents can be a bit dismissive to newcomers (this is a generality, and not always the case, obviously). I was able to forge new friendships and relationships with people from the area, but it did take some time. People mention the 'Seattle Freeze' often, which is why I bring that up.
Being from the PNW originally, the weather was what I was used to, but actually RAINS LESS IN SEATTLE that Portland! I know, mind blown! But, Seattle is actually in a Rain Shadow cast by the Olympic Mountain Range. We still have tons of cloudy days, though. The Summer months more than make up for this, in my opinion, but I do always try and go somewhere sunny &

Great place if your in tech or a yuppie - 4/2/2017
A city that has prided itself on individualism has sold out to corporate greed. Amazon, Microsoft, Google and other tech giants have changed this town to something else. It's just Techies (mostly Brogrammers), people with money and yuppies now. There still is some middle class, but they are struggling and likely don't live in Seattle proper anymore. COL is high, people can be cold to non-natives, and weather is not sunny for more than half the year. Come summer time, Seattle is beautiful, and many things to do and sights to

Young grads, techies, libs, & Unicorns - 3/6/2017
The city I grew out of. Yes Seattle used to be the little town that could. Still a bit segregated, but real. Now everyone is from somewhere else, so the real sense of family and community is lost, so we see the Seattle freeze, where it is hard to meet others. I did youth mentoring for a mostly African American school, 33 mentors, on to two blacks, rest all white, no Asians, and only me from Seattle, everyone else from somewhere

Compromises - 2/14/2017
DONT COME HERE. You will not be able to find an apartment and you will be homeless. Minimum wage is $15 but you will live on the street. There is rental discrimination here, landlords only want to rent to tenants who are single and work for Google or Facebook. The job market is overflowing but the housing crisis is detrimental. City officials have taken care of the issue by creating tent encampments. So they basically don't care. The middle and lower class of become completely displaced by the over-gentrification of the city. Do not move to Seattle expecting to LIVE in Seattle. You will most likely be living in Auburn, Renton, or Tacoma, there you can have a decent living situation, just have a car. Average commute times are atleast an

If you are white, wealthy and self-centered, Seatt - 1/19/2017
Before you chop my head off, let me explain. I had always wanted to move here since I was small, to the Pacific Northwest. When that opportunity came in the form of a job in a very specialized field, I jumped at the chance. I didn't come here with anything but love and an open mind.
Seattle- the portrayal from the outside-looking-in, to the reality of living here are night and day.
The very best things are there are beautiful mountains, the Puget Sound and all sorts of stuff within your fingertips. The downside to this is for instance, having to book a place to camp in January for the upcoming season. You will see people on your treks unless you go far out, like the backside of Mt.Olympus or the Wonderland trail. The mountains here are stunning. The weather is very mild, coming from central PA, I would say we had just about as many overcast drizzly days there, near close to it. You get used to the rain and just go out in it. Oysters here are the best I

Seattle/Miserable Town - 8/10/2016
I spent five unhappy years in Seattle, going to college. It is true what people say about the place being unfriendly. If you say something to someone at a bus stop, say, or in a grocery store line, you receive an incredulous stare like you are crazy. The people are narrow-minded, arrogant and pretentious. They ridiculed me, a Southern boy, for how blacks were treated down South. I noticed blacks in Seattle were bottled up in a few parts of town, and not real welcome elsewhere around town. Only “white” blacks are welcome about town, and never in large numbers. The place is bleeding heart liberal country with all its folly. Once I complimented a woman on her looks. Another woman accused me of sexual harassment. Political correctness rules, meaning everyone is afraid to do anything because someone will be offended. When white officers were acquitted in the Rodney King trial, robotic students attacked the admin building at the UW, mindlessly running liberal programming code.

Places in the Heart - 5/11/2016
I have lived in Seattle for 36 years. It has changed a lot - for better and worse but is still lovely. Still a place at 23 I would want to move to - even more than the city it was in 1980. I can't imagine finding a city with more resources at your fingertips, more caring about the environment, more beautiful, or a better place to garden. But I do know of places much more affordable - especially now (2016) and much easier to live on a fixed or lower income. That is why I am retiring elsewhere with great sadness but also knowing that I will never have to sit through three months of solid rain again. Days of precipitation surprisingly on 17 more than middle TN (can that be right?) but days of gray 65 more. I'll take the sunshine and the hard rain then sun and the much much lower cost of living. Great place to live with a good job. I love you Seattle, always

Its what you expect - 2/24/2016
Yeah it does tend to rain 8 months out of the year while hovering in the 30s and 40s which makes the rain bite into you a bit.
Traffic is very very bad. Rush hour is just a nightmare.
People don't seem to want new friends. They will do everything they can to ignore you short of being hostile, although this is becoming more and more common everywhere these days.
There is a lot to see and do. It is interesting and pretty to look at.
Its a pretty diverse city and proud of it. If you are a liberal minded person you will enjoy it.
Its a safe city, violent and property crime is quite low.
Expensive, not California expensive but still not cheap at all.
In my opinion the thing about Seattle is the scenery outside of the city. Drive 40 miles east to the mountains for some of the most beautiful areas you have ever
