Seattle: No heart is no lie - 9/12/2010
I have lived in the Seattle area for about 25 years now. I love the natural beauty here, but the people are another matter. I have yet to make a single friend. The same is true for my husband, and for several other people I've talked with over the years.
I've lived in several states, and always made friends there. (The many friends I made during my 6 year stay in Ohio wrote to me for over 10 years after I left!)
It's a very competitive place to live and work. I have worked as both a perm and contractor in many companies here, and I honestly have never seen so many people who pretend to be a friend and then stab you in the back while they position themselves to steal your job. This has happened to both me and my husband many times here--in different companies. (He and I work in different professions, and have both encountered this.) It's totally unreal. I never encountered this type of behavior in other states I've lived. I have witnessed this behavior the

Corruption In The Court - 9/4/2010
We have had a couple of experiences with Carlos Velategui and they were definitely not good ones. We believe that he is totally incompetent and is not able to handle his responsibilities. My mother, who is an incapacitated person, has lost in significant ways due to Velategui's loyalties. We believe that she has lost several thousands of dollars because of his slanted choices. We believe that he should not be in a position of such power. Other elderly people will continue to lose respect and money because of this man. We are truly at a

Seemingly endless opportunities. - 7/23/2010
Seattle is a wonderful place to raise a child.
I decided to move into the city (I had been in Kent, Wa.) and raise my child
in an environment where we could routinely find opportunities to learn and
play and basically expand our world. Seattle has provided such an opportunity.
The parks department offers fantastic child care / day camps at many of their
community centers and the Seattle public library system ROCKS! as does Metro

Boy, If I Had It To Do All Over Again, I Wouldn't - 3/22/2010
Don't Walk! Run! Run! Run! To The Nearest Highway Entrance! I Moved My Family Here From The Mid-West Almost Twenty Years Ago. Since I Have Been Here Employment Has Been Mediocre. Rents Keep Going Up And People Are Not Friendly. It Is Really Difficult To Find A Suitable Mate Around Here, Particularly If You Are Female. All The Available Men Are Either On Drugs/Alcohol, Fresh Out Of Jail/Prison, They Are Unemployed, Have Anger/Control Problems, Their Credit Is Messed Up, Are Interested In Nothing But Playing Games, Etc. Etc. Etc.
This Is What Happens When You Read That A City (Seattle) Is Rated The Best Place To Live. It Is So Expensive Here. You Need 3-4 Roommates Working Full-time To Make Ends Meet. And It's Either Raining Or It's Cloudy All The Time. God Forbid Should It Snow Because The Entire Area Will Shut Down.
Believe Me, The Other Man's Grass Is Not Greener. If You Don't Have Much Money, Prefer Sunshine And Like Seasons, Don't Move Here.

No Place is Perfect.... - 2/16/2010
"No place is perfect" is probably the best assessment for ANY cities anywhere in the world. Weather, cost of living, crime ,etc are just some of the variables to take into account. Additionally, everyone is looking for something different depending on their age, marital status, occupation, etc. I am here in the US for 26 years and had the opportunity to live in NYC, Atlanta and Seattle for the last 9 years and learned to appreciate Seattle's mild weather (no snow, no extreme heat or cold, mild rain) and the fact that my work place is a 10 minute walk from my residence. The more challenging side for me, is 1) the "inflatted" real estate market which is unreasonably high for living quarter that are the size of jewel box. The average Belltown condo price(one bedroom)is around $380 K for a 600 square feet 2)the lack of civility (often played down by saying that the locals are reserved and from Nordic descent...3) the lack of true cafe where people talked and engaged versus typing

observation from a home-grown local - 1/9/2010
My grandparents on both side were immigrants to Washington in the very early 1900s. My parents grew up in Seattle before most people from other states had ever heard of it. Before the 70's I think Seattle could be characterized as more of a blue-collared medium-sized town that Boeing (and Weyerhauser) had built. Yet, being on the Pacific Rim had always kept the town/people open to other cultures, to travel, and to higher education (after all, the immigrants and settlers worked hard so their children could have a better life). Traffic was snarl-free up until the 90's. People were friendly, open, curious, polite, although a little reserved (hey, with many having Scandinavian and Asian roots, what do you expect?). As transplants came into the area because they loved our cheap housing (compared to other bigger West coast cities, at the time, from the 80's on), our scenery, and the year-around activities, they brought with them their arrogance. The Seattleites my generations of family grew
