Seattle, Washington is a major city located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. According to reviews on BestPlaces.net, many users have shared their experiences living in Seattle. Overall, it seems that the city's natural beauty and diverse population are highly praised, while the high cost of living and traffic are common complaints. Similarly, user "David" says, "The scenery in Seattle is breathtaking. You have mountains, lakes, and forests all within reach." However, the cost of living is a recurring concern. Comments about Seattle - 4/5/2008
Seattle is one of the best big cities in the United States. The city has beautiful views of Mt. Rainier to the south and Mt. Baker to the north, and has good weather devoid of extremes. Seattle is also a nice place to raise a family, with low crime for a large city and an excellent public school system. On the downside, the very high cost of living and housing makes it inaccessible to most middle-class people. While it rarely snows in the city, rain is common and there is a general lack of sunny days compared to other cities in the United States. Also, if you don't like the typical disadvantages of living in a big city (such as crowding and traffic), Seattle is not the place for Read More

With traffic getting worse, living in Seattle prop - 2/23/2008
Being a resident here since 1971, traffic in Seattle has been getting progressively worse. When we first moved here, one can get on I-5 and there was literally be no congestion whatsoever. Now, traffic is generally congested somewhere from 8 am - 7 pm on the highways and interstates. People generally don't like taxes here so the problem is not likely to be fixed soon, especially with the mayor's office predicting our population will increase by 100K (about 20%) in the next 10 years.
If you want to get anywhere, local streets are best.
With this said, we've chosen to remain in Seattle proper rather than moving to the suburbs. Right now, my commute is about 4 miles from work. It takes me 15 minutes on average, 10 minutes on "good days." You may have to settle for a smaller house and yard, but at least you have time to enjoy it when you get home every day (rather than just weekends).

I like to consume coffee ina yellow raincoat while - 2/2/2008
Straight off. Seattle wins for the sexiest US city. Gleaming skyscrapers surrounded by the Puget Sound and Lake Washington with Mt. Rainier and the Olymopia Mountains as backdrops and the Space Needle to bring something new to the skyline. Much like the rest of the area Seattle sees a lot of rain. If your blood type tests coffee than you should move to the birthplace of Starbucks. Everywhere you turn you can find a coffee shop. It's like Walmart only worse. Walmart can't be on every corner. Coffee shops can. Many great bands also have originated here; most famously Nirvana. Everyone in Seattle has at least listened to the music. As for food, the city has many restaurants, most of them stand sub-par. Seafood is abundant and you can always catch fish at the Pike Place Market which is a maze of shops and heaven for people who collect knick-knacks. There are no really good museums surprisingly considering Seattle is extremely sophisticated with most people with a degree. Crime is low and Read More

Why Washington Will Woo You. - 1/27/2008
I left paradise (read: Hawaii) and moved to Washington state with my immediate family when I was 12. To this day my parents wonder if they did the right thing because our entire extended family still lives in Hawaii and living island-style creates familial relationships with people we Seattlelites would regard as acquaintances simply because you can't escape people on the island.

I find myself constantly reminding them that there is no better place to live in the States than Washington. Thanks to major companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Boeing, and Nordstrom, the economy in Seattle and surrounding cities continues to bustle, even in tough times. Even today, while we are entering a recession and housing markets suffer throughout the nation - in Washington, days on the market may be longer, but residentials and condos are still selling on an average of 60-80 days and we are only seeing significant price reductions in new construction homes.
