i like it - 2/3/2007
i've lived here almost 4 years. i make $9.72 an hour and live Comfortably in a GOOD neighborhood. a lot of people come here from 1800 square foot homes in missouri iowa and kansas that they pay like 800 a month for. they expect it to be the same here. when it's not they complain about it. if you're willing to give up the car living in a neighborhood like queen anne capital hill first hill or the central district is very easy. i pay 600 rent about 50 a month in utilities i make about 1500 a month, with no car payments it's comfortable. the two times i've gone job hunting i've had little trouble found a job within a couple weeks. i'm overweight slightly socially awkward in interviews i shake sweat and studder, i still found jobs. the people that had trouble finding jobs must have been petophiles or something. when people say very very white they mean 65% white. i'm white and i only have one white friend. most of my friends are black or asian. in my opinion white seattlites suck they're

The decline and fall of seattle - 1/29/2007
I was fortunate to have been raised in West Seattle on Alki beach. What a wonderful place in the 1940's, 50's, and early 60's. I now reside over on the Kitsap Pennisula far from the high prices, snarled traffic, condominiums, and declining quality of the school systems. The arts and entertainment in Seattle are still worth the trip, but I, as a born and bred Seattle native cannot beleive what has happened to a once Emerald city.

Housing is now near LA levels - 1/29/2007
Pressure from succesful hi-tech millionaires and Many Seattle old money-inheritor's have pushed most out of the market to live in the most convienient and attractive places. For instance Bellevue-Kirkland, basically a suberb on the east side of Lake Washington, It will cost at least 750k to buy even a decent house. Of course if you go out further you can do somewhat better but then the traffic is horrendus to get to your job in Bellevue or Seattle.
You just feel sick buying a house for a million that is a cracker box and was only 500k a couple years ago, because of Old Seattel money and new found hi-tech

A Beuatiful Place to Live - 1/29/2007
Seattle is an amazing combination of city and nature. The two blend together in an amazing way, and the best way to visualize this is during sunset or sunrise when the amazing colors of the sky reflect off the modern glass high-rises of the city. The colors on a good day are very vivid, ultra-bright pinks, deep reds, vibrant purples, clear blue, and sometimes a little green. The sky on some days turns into one GIANT

Pretentious, cold, Seattle quickly gets old - 1/26/2007
I've lived in Seattle 8 years and, despite my passion for the outdoors, consider it a huge mistake to have moved here. (I'm stuck for now.) The gorgeous scenery is almost 'mocking' in its contrast to the true ugliness of the people (with precious few exceptions). They are cold, pretentious control freaks who cannot tolerate differences of opinion on even the most mundane matters(despite their desperate calls for 'diversity'... yet the majority of the population is economically well-off & white--go figure). Add to this, commuting is LA-awful, cost of living is excessively high, and the job market isn't worth delving into unless you're a techy. What's really enigmatic is their constant bragging about what a 'World Class City' this is.
They respond to any criticism by blaming it on "Californians" who've moved here (not true -- I've lived there too)! Heed my advice and stay away! You've been warned!

Seattle can be affordable if you know a few secret - 1/2/2007
I relocated to Seattle from North Carolina in 1994 with no more than a Mazda full of my most treasured possessions. The prices were a bit of a shock at first. Even toilet paper, which is manufactured here in Everett, is more expensive in Seattle than in North Carolina! It took me a couple of years to figure out how people manage.
Even though I'd worked my way up to a mid-level job position, I had to start over at an entry-level job while I proved I wouldn't run back home with my tail between my legs. After about a year of working hard and showing my value, I was promoted within my company and finally made a survivable income. However, it took 3 years to get back up to the equivalent salary of what I was earning in NC.
Discount wholesale grocery stores are a must! Join Costco or Sams. Shop at the grocery outlets. The minimum wage is much higher here which means that what is cheap elsewhere (such as it's cheaper buying groceries than eating out) is

Not what it once was - 12/29/2006
I was born in Seattle and my family have lived here since the 40's. I moved to CA when I was in grade school as my dad was in the navy. I came back to Seattle with my family in 1995. The climate here has always been beautiful summers and overcast drizzly winters but when working your pretty much inside anyway. Overall Northwesterners themselves are pretty friendly. Whats changed was when the tech bubble was strong a lot of people bought propert here on spec and priced homes out of reach for the average person. A lot of techies also moved here for microsoft and that changed the personality of the area. Overall if you like to camp, hike, ride bikes or be around the water its a great place. You can be from the city to the mountains in 45 minutes.Over all air quality is excellent. Rain over the past 5 years has been different a lot at once I would guess because of global

When coming to Seattle, try and live as close to d - 12/26/2006
I am so thankful that my condo is downtown. This past winter has had floods, storms, high winds, snow, and ice. It's been terrible. But, luckily, I live downtown where we are sheltered from the cold temps and high winds because of our lower elevation. I have felt sorry for people (especially those who live in the suburbs) because they have gone over a week without power due to the high winds.
My friend who lives just a mile up Cap Hill has often had ice and snow when I only have rain due to the nearly 500 foot increase in elevation.
In general, the weather here is not bad, it just gets very depressing having day after day with no sun breaks, but you get used to it, or on anti-depressants and move
