Terrible - 8/10/2021
Lived here 13 years. Air smells like chemicals and gasses not to mention how terrible the pollen is. People are either terribly rude, your friends, or follow you home at night. My wife was walking the dog and got followed home by some random ass guy. People vandalized our house by spray painting penises on it. Man yelled at me for walking my dog. Read More

Old town going nowhere. - 3/24/2019
Shelton is a town stuck in the mud. Thats the best way to describe it. People like it that way from what I can tell. It's stuck in time between an old town appearance but infiltrated with modern day druggies, old run down homes in some places and absolutely nothing downtown but a couple ok restaurants and a few decent shops. It has a dilapitated Safeway that's the last non updated store in Safeway's inventory. Up on the hill is Walmart and Fred Meyer with a small strip of stores, all the regular fast food places and several Banks and gas stations.
Basically Shelton is simply a place for most people in Mason County to get their groceries, do banking and grab a bite to eat.. that's it. It's the logistical support hub for the county and thousands that live well outside of the city limits. Read More

Shelton and surroundings - 10/31/2014
I moved to Shelton, from Seattle 12 years ago and liked the small-town feel w its surrounding natural beauty of the S Puget Sound and the Olympic Peninsula, yet close proximity to major cities. The tragedy of Shelton for its residents, so it seems, is that it is heavily dominated by a'Good-ol'Boys' network of petty local powerbrokers, dominated by the timber [Simpson] and shellfish [Taylor] harvesting industry and their cheerleaders in the realestate community and local/county gov. eager to sell out public interests for the [false] promises of quick 'big money' coming to town, as we've seen in the case of a narrowly [and amazingly] defeated biomass/mass-polluting incinerator plant [Adage], they tried to bring in 'under the radar screen'. Since Wallmart established its '$uper center', many businesses have closed and one can almost hear a giant sucking sound of many million$ being syphoned off, leaving the area to Wally's H.Q in Bentonville, AR... in exchange for a handful Read More

Just a thought - 6/8/2007
I recently am moving to Shelton from Olympia. I fell in love with Shelton and its small town feel. Now that I am making Shelton my home I can't help but think about making it a better place to live. It seems like a depressed town. Not progressing like it should and I ponder why. I just take drives the the town and on the outskirts all the time and think about the things we could change as a community and make better, cleaner, a better quality of life. Shelton has good bones it just needs a little love. I have lived in Olympia since 1997 and I watched it grow so big so fast, all the country is now all city. I think Shelton can be what Olympia used to be. I look forward to registering to vote and to do what I can to make our quality of life better. Together as a community we can make it happen.
