What BestPlaces Users Say about Spokane

Spokane, Washington is a mid-sized city located in the eastern part of the state. It is known for its beautiful natural surroundings, vibrant arts and cultural scene, and affordable cost of living. In recent years, it has been experiencing significant growth and development, making it an attractive place for people to live. However, as with any city, there are mixed opinions about living in Spokane. Let's take a look at what some users have to say about their experiences living in this particular place.

Here are some excerpts from four different user reviews about living in Spokane:

1) "I've been living in Spokane for over 10 years now and I have to say, it's a great place to raise a family. The schools are good, the cost of living is affordable, and there are plenty of outdoor activities to keep you busy. The only downside is the traffic can get pretty bad during rush hour." - Emily W.

2) "I moved to Spokane for college and ended up staying because I fell in love with the city. There's always something going on, whether it's a music festival or a new restaurant opening. It's also a very bike-friendly city, which I appreciate. My only complaint would be the lack of diversity, but I hope that changes in the future." - Alex M.

3) "I've lived in Spokane my whole life and I have to say, it's gotten a lot better in recent years. The downtown area has really improved and there are more job opportunities now. However, there are still some areas that can be unsafe, so it's important to do your research before choosing a neighborhood to live in." - John B.

4) "I moved to Spokane from Seattle and I have to say, I love it here. It's much more affordable and the people are friendlier. Plus, you can't beat the outdoor recreation opportunities. My only complaint is that the winters can be brutal, but the summers make up for it." - Sarah K.

In summary, Spokane may not be for everyone, but it seems to be a popular choice for families, students, and those looking for a more affordable and laid-back lifestyle. While there are some challenges, such as traffic and safety concerns, overall the reviews are mostly positive and highlight the city's charm, community, and outdoor offerings.

Living in Spokane, WA - 8/24/2009
My wife and I have lived all over the U.S. due to corporate transfers. We have lived from coast to coast and border to border. In seeking the ideal place to live we did some research and made a spreadsheet outling the key things that were important to us. Some of those things included healthcare; cost of living, culture, climate, etc.

Hands down Spokane, WA was the winner. It would be very hard to find a better quality of life for the price. And the added bonus is the overall friendliness of the people. We are from Southern California and I can tell you that life there is nothing like it is here. We have incredible healthcare facilities, universities, cultural activities, great outdoor activities, and unbelievably low cost of living and a year round four season climate WITHOUT HUMIDITY!

A friend of mine characterized Spokane as a Big, Little Town and "the best kept secret in the Read More

Mobile Homes, Heating Costs - 8/18/2009
Does anyone on this blog know the space rents in mobile home parks in Spokane? How much does it cost to heat a mobile home in
Spokane? How much to heat a studio apartment? One post said no jobs: are there really no health care jobs in Spokane?

Thanks,

Spokane in a nutshell - 7/2/2009
Both my wife and I have family that grew up in Spokane. I was an airforce BRAT and moved around most of my life. We settled here in Spokane my late teenage years. I have lived at all four corners of the USA.
If you like seasons, Spokane has all four but the winter is very long with grey skies.. If you can get past the winter, the spring, summer and fall are wonderful. Some of the best you will find in the US. The people in Spokane for the most part are friendly. As with any city, it depends on where you live. The nicer neighborhoods you will find on the outskirts of the city. North, top of the South Hill, East of Pines and West of Downtown. The nicest neighborhoods would have to be the South Hill (more towards the top), Wandemere, Meade, Colbert area (North) and far East Spokane (Valley). Also Eagle Ridge (West) is a great new family friendly neighborhood right off the freeway.
Spokane is revitalizing downtown with new condos, restaurants, and lots of shopping. The Read More

Many great qualities - 4/16/2009
My wife and I moved to Spokane last year; this is my hometown. We enjoy the seasons except for the winter so we went to Arizona for 3 months. We love living in a city with a river running thru downtown and a state park 15 min from our house, numerous lakes and a small town feeling. Greenbluff is a great place to go for wonderful fresh fruits and vegetables. Great skiing within 50 miles, a great golf course 1 mile away, an awesome Church, LifeCenter. A day's drive to numerous national parks and Canada. We love it.

Great Place To Live - 3/4/2009
I moved to Spokane five years ago from Southern California. I love the four seasons and the friendly people. Winter is great for sledding, skiing and enjoying quiet nights with your family by the fire. Summer is amazing with many lakes and water activities nearby. There are many parks for outdoor activities and picnics. The medical community is exceptional and the schools are good.

This is a great place to raise a family and enjoy life.Read More

Our "Big little city" - 11/3/2008
Spokane has very distinct seasons. Summer temperatures are mid-eighties to high nineties. Winter months at times get long. 2007 snow was 98 inches throughout the five+ months of snow on the ground. If you like winter recreation, Spokane and surrounding areas are for you. Spring and Fall weather though is very pleasant, and a nice relief from the drastic changes through the other Read More
