Hidden Gem: Greendale, WI - 4/8/2023
Greendale is my hometown. It was designed by Eleanor Roosevelt as one of the three guardian communities during the Great Depression. The Village is located in a secluded valley, with plenty of dog walking trails, green park space, and a charming Old Towne Midwestern local craft, antique, ice cream parlor and library. Despite being located near Milwaukee, about 10 mins away at 45 miles/ hr. The village area is still safe for children to ride their bicycles to the library or ice cream shop. Blink and you might not even know you went past Greendale located between Loomis Ave ( Hwy 36) and 76th St. S. Between Grange Ave and Rawson Ave. In addition, to the charming village center the Root River Parkway meanders through the southern edge of town for miles. The school district has always been a leader in education. This little village is one of a kind.  Read More

Greendale Pros: Small village atmosphere, quiet, no crime (except a few thefts at our mall), nice walking areas (parks and walk trails), little traffic (mostly no-thru streets), easy access to downtown Milwaukee.

Greendale Cons: Property Taxes are very high (OVER twice national mill rate average, see Sperlings Housing Data), winters are long, cloudy and cold for 5 to 6 months. Riff-raff is getting closer to Greendale (only 1-2 miles away now) and could overtake us in 8-15 years, maybe sooner, maybe never, our Mall is going downhill in last 5 years. House prices are slightly high.

If you do not mind the cold and the property taxes you probably will love the Read More
