Discover all that the Monroe area has to offer! - 1/29/2008
The Monroe, WI area is a wonderful place to live. We are centrally located, with access to Madison (less than an hour north), Milwauke (about 2 hours northeast), Chicago (about 2 hours southeast), and Minneapolis (about 5 hours to the northwest).
The community is clean, safe, and a great place for kids. We have quality schools, an art center (Monroe Art Center), a skate park, an indoor ice rink, and many recreational resources. The historic downtown is thriving and is the location for several community festivals, including Green County Cheese Days held every other year in September. We have the Green County Historical Museum and the Historic Cheesemaking Center.
We are the home of many diverse growing businesses, including The Swiss Colony, Monroe Truck Equipment, Orchid International, the Charlton Group, RR Donnelley Co., Minhas Brewery and many others. We are in the center of "cheese" country, with 13 specialty cheese factories in and around our community.

Low Cost of living, but NO JOBS! Commute to Madis - 9/10/2006
I have lived in Monroe my whole life and there are NO Decent jobs here. I am one of the few lucky ones that have one of them. There are really no jobs in Monroe at all. It seems as though this community is slowly dying. It would be a great place to come and start a business because most of the town wants it. I don't know what holds new companies back from here, but we need it desperatly. But you'd have to commute an hour to Madison to find a decent paying job.
On the positive side the cost of living is low, the crime is low, the education is pretty okay (it used to be great however last year they cut costs and many teaching jobs). Very nice summer weather and horribly cold winters. Monroe is really a great place to raise a family. Good people here for the most Read More
