Ideal Small Town America - 1/31/2021
I am originally from Minnesota, but have lived in Sparta now for 15 years. It has been a wonderful town to raise a family in.

There are many public parks and playgrounds (at least 8) along the river, as well as nice playgrounds at the schools. We have the Sparta Elroy Bike Trail, which is the first Rail to Trail Conversion in the USA. It travels through 3 old stone train tunnels which are amazing!! The downtown is super bike friendly as well.

We have a super special German Style Market for our Farmer's Market, as well as a Christmas Market. There are concerts in the Parks every Wednesday in the warm months. There are lots of Parades and celebrations throughout the year, featuring live music, street vendors, art competitions and more! The town participates in a game called "Sparta Rocks" where people paint and hide rocks around the town, which is great fun for all ages! There is also a beautiful Christmas light display in the park all December, where Read More

What I can tell you about Sparta Wisconsin - 4/30/2006
We have lived here for a few years and I can tell you our 3 bdrm 1 bath house with a minimal yard cost us $80,000. Which you would think is a good deal until the property taxes kick in, which run us about $1800 a year. Total rip off. The jobs here dont pay worth anything unless you are a truck driver and even then the jobs are slim picking. The schools are okay but in the elementary level you can expect alot of bullying, kids talking sexually, ect. Better just to homeschool, which is the one positive the homeschooling laws in wisconsin are pretty good. The bitter cold winters are terrible and the humid summers are sometimes hard to bare. And just like anywhere else in the midwest if you were not born and raised here, good luck fitting in. Everyone in the midwest has an attitude problem. All we can come up with is they get upset over the cold winters and being trapped in their homes for so long and then they get overly anxious in the spring and summer so bad moods year round.
