What BestPlaces Users Say about Waukesha

Waukesha, Wisconsin is a mid-sized city located about 20 miles west of Milwaukee. Known for its beautiful parks and vibrant downtown area, Waukesha has a population of approximately 72,000 residents. It also has a diverse economy, with industries ranging from healthcare to manufacturing. With its close proximity to a major city and its own unique charm, Waukesha attracts many people looking for a place to call home. However, as with any city, there are both positive and negative aspects of living in Waukesha. Let's take a look at what some people have to say about their experiences living in this particular place.

1. "I've lived in Waukesha for over 10 years and I absolutely love it here. The downtown area has a great selection of restaurants and bars, and there are plenty of parks and trails for outdoor activities. The schools are also top-notch, making it a great place to raise a family." - Sarah T.

2. "Waukesha may be a nice place to visit, but I would not recommend living here. The cost of living is high and the job market is limited. The traffic and roads are also terrible, making it difficult to get around. Overall, I've been disappointed with my experience living in Waukesha." - John D.

3. "I moved to Waukesha from a larger city and I have to say, it's been a breath of fresh air. The community here is so welcoming and friendly. I also appreciate the slower pace of life and the lower cost of living. It's a great place to settle down and enjoy a quieter lifestyle." - Emily R.

4. "Waukesha has a lot to offer, but it also has its drawbacks. The winters can be brutal and the job market is competitive. It also lacks diversity, which can be a downside for some people. Overall, I've had a decent experience living here, but it's definitely not for everyone." - Tom B.

Not that great, long winters and huge potholes. - 1/31/2020
I lived in waukesha for 37 years. It's home, it's where I grew up but it's a bit of a dump. They're trying hard to make it nice but its just not that great of a place to live. Crime has been on the rise for years. Winter lasts for 8 months and good luck getting plowed in a reasonable amount of time if you're not in a high property tax area. The pot holes are a quarter the size of your car, lots of money in suspension costs to your car. The rents are going up on apartments like mad and property taxes are some of the highest in the area. Positives, the schools are decent. There are plenty of churches if you're into that. The suburbs are still nice but are disappearing. Stay out of the city if you have kids, move to a suburb or the outskirts like Oconomowoc or Pewaukee. Oh yeah and if you like bar hopping, Waukesha has a lot of pubs. Friday night live downtown is a nice venue. Read More

Wonderful place to live - 1/17/2013
I lived in Waukesha in 2006 while on a contract position for a precast design company. I found Waukesha to be a very enjoyable place to live. It is a very place to live with lots of things to do and place to shop. It has big city amenities with a small town Read More

Accessible and Inclusive - 3/21/2009
Waukesha is a small city, 65K population, with the amenities of a larger town. Its access to library, daily shopping, mainline restaurant fare and outside activity is very good. It is also bitterly cold four months of the Read More

Close to Milwaukee, yet has its own feel. Not the best place to live as it has been changing in recent years, but close enough to do everything you need Read More

NRA devotees, SUV sucking Republicans, and illegal - 6/1/2007
I agree with Larry; that's why I'm moving back to Connecticut!
Also of great concern is that Waukesha is a sanctuary city for illegal Mexicans. Its' schools are consistently in serious budget crisis and overrun with the anchor children of the illegals, and Waukesha town government and residents seem to take no measures to stop the madness and illegal take-over of their town and schools. I know, because I attempted to address this at a school board meeting and was immediately shot down. I'm getting the hell out of here and going back to a liberal town which doesn't allow anyone without a valid green card and/or visa to attend their thriving public schools and permeate their beautiful town with a bunch of illegal Read More

decent but cold! - 4/29/2007
Waukesha is a decent place to live. Overall, quite safe and not too many places I wouldn't walk down the street at night. Really, for the most part a nice place to bring up a family. Still a ways away from the corruption of Milwaukee. Would never live there!!!

Job situation isn't too bad out here. Would not work in Milw, either. My wife does and the drive in and out isn't good, but that's normal I guess. She usually takes the streets because the "expressway" gets so backed up. When it's not snowing out, they're doing construction and that backs things up even worse. They are in the process of rebuilding the entire expressway system. Downtown was a HUGE mess but it's getting better and it is very nice. Back to Waukesha...

Cost of living is decent here, nice places to eat and shop but the nightlife is terrible unless you like to sit at the corner bar. There is NO nightlife, it is all back in Milw. There might be some nice bars to go to, but there is no Read More
