Wausau in July - 6/3/2019
I visited Wausau during the summer and it was a very nice change from Phoenix. The people were friendly & helpful. It was a little humid than what I’m used to but tolerable. Traffic was a breeze and if you pull off side of the road, expect someone to stop & ask if you need help. The hospitality there is contagious. We can’t wait to go Read More

Wausau is an armpit community - 7/5/2016
Beautiful area geographically but beneath that beauty are some of the most overly conservative, unfriendly, judgemental people anywhere. Very hard to make friends here especially if you're not from here or if you're single. I've lived here most of my life and still find the area very unwelcoming. It is strictly a family-orientated community; if you're single you'll be assumed to be gay/homosexual. If you are in a family situation you'll probably do Read More

A GOOD WORKING CLASS TOWN! - 7/8/2013
I LIVED IN WAUSAU WI OVER 23 YEARS AGO. I RELOCATED TO WYOMING IN 1990 FOR GOVERMENT POSITION. NOW RETIRED FROM FEDERAL SERVICE, I WILL BE MOVING BACK TO THE UPPER MIDWEST THIS SUMMER TO IRONWOOD, MICHIGAN IN THE UPPER PENNISULA.. MY EXPERIENCE LIVING IN WAUSAU. IT IS A NICE UPPER MIDWEST COMMUNITY. IS SOMEWHAT STOIC, NOT ALL JOVAL. BUT MOSTLY, THE PEOPLE THERE ARE VERY NICE AND FRIENDLY. WAUSAU UNFORTUNATELY, HAS LOST SOME OF ITS MANUFACTURING BASE SUCH AS JI CASE AND A PAPER MILL. WISCONSIN ALONG WITH OTHER MIDWEST STATES HAVE LOST MANY OF THEIR MANUFACTURING JOBS TO OVERSEAS COMPANIES OR TO OTHER STATES THAT HAVE LOWER TAXES. I REMEMBER WINTERS IN NORTHERN WISCONSIN IN THE 1980S. THE WINTERS THEN WERE MUCH COLDER AND MORE SNOW. 25 BELOW WAS NOT UNCOMMON WITH FROZEN LAKES.. NOTHING COMPARES TO THE BEAUTY OF THE NORTH WOODS IN NORTHERN WISCONSIN. LOTS OF LAKES AND TREES. IT IS TRULY GOD'S COUNTRY. I AM HAPPY I AM COMING BACK TO LIVING IN THE MIDWEST.. THE WEST IS BECOMING Read More

great winter sports - 4/17/2007
Wausau is a great city if you want to get out of long spells of Florida-like humidity, dryed out parched desert lands, crazy big city traffic that goes on all day, and if you love the northwoods, don't mind a short spring and fall and a long winter. Great place for winter sports activities although the snow doesn't consistently stick around for as long a stretches as it used to. Best part is the relatively mild summers. Beware of the very large mosquitoes that come along for a short while in the summer. lol It may be just my opinion, but my observation is that a higher than average percentage of the people up here have to deal with getting sick more frequently and working with people who are depressed or crabby thru the long often cloudy winter-like months. The upside is that the winters have been milder in December and January than in the past. If you can tolerate the cold and manage to get outdoors enough thru the winter or if you are a homebody or are just looking for a change, Read More
