Out of all the places we have lived, Laramie is our favorite place we have lived. The locals are nice. Neighbors know each other. Neighbors help each other out. If you want the city life, this isn’t the place for you. Walmart is your big store. Winter can be brutal, though.

I have lived in Laramie for 35 years. It's true If you want malls and shopping this is not the place for you. There is not much high fashion here.
Laramie is for people who like hiking, skiing, snowmobiling, horseback riding, mountain biking, rock and mountain climbing and watching antelope and cattle graze.
Its the high plains desert. Elevation 7200 feet plus. The air is thin and it rarely gets above 90° in the summer. We have a University with all the uniqueness of our Cow-boy/girl state.
The state was settled by French trappers, the Irish, Norwegians, Germans and Swedes and people who don't mind the cold. You will see people wearing shorts in 10° temps. 'It's refreshing!' If you encounter a rude driver they are likely from another state or recently from another state because we as longtime residents and natives know if you cut someone off on Grand Ave you may run into them at the Safeway tomorrow.

I no longer fear hell as I have now lived in Laramie for 2 years.
Where to begin? The first thing I will mention is the ridiculous housing prices for what you are actually getting. The houses in this town are practically built on top of each other. Nobody with a middle-class job in this town has a front or back yard. They have a patch of grass that is dry and dead 10 out of the 12 months in a year. The housing prices are insane. $250K + for a 3 bedroom house with no yard.
And the roads... oh the roads. Always in terrible condition. The pothole you saw in 2014 is still there in 2021. The Wyoming Department of Transportation must really be underfunded because most of their time is spent trying to assemble speed traps on I-80 with the state cops to make a quick buck off of an out-of-state driver. One of the best-kept little secrets. This is one of the few places in the US where you don't need AC in the summer. The state of Wyoming puts much money into the Laramie economy. Laramie is built around the University of Wyoming and that university receives more state funding per student than any other in the US. The campus and its facilities are stunning. Laramie is super-bike-friendly, and is surrounded by open spaces and there is direct access from town into the Medicine Bow National Forest with many trails and the best Nordic skiing in winter.

Housing sucks and so do the drivers - 8/23/2017
The town reminds me of what you would see in places like new york and san fransisco. People live on top of each other here. Houses are built so close together that you have no yards. The town is growing, but unfortunately it is growing the same way, no space. The housing price are insane! $250K + for a 3 bedroom house with no yard! 200K for a duplex, yes a DUPLEX! YOU GET HALF A HOUSE for 200K! OUTRAGEOUS!
Then you have the city engineers who should all be fired. People are allowed to park on the sides of roads where barely two lane traffic can move. People have too literally pull their mirrors in or else they get ripped off by traffic. It's comical to see door mirrors lying on the road on 3rd street. Lots of intersections should have traffic lights. Lots of stop signs are covered by bushes, trees, or parked cars that are allowed to park right up on corners causing TONS of blind spots in this place.

Great place to raise a family and neighbors actually know each other and help each other. There is not a friendlier place in the USA. Town is incredibly friendly. I went 4 years to school there and miss it a lot. If your kids are undecided on a college, consider Wyoming. I promise they will love it.

You must be VERY tolerant of high winds & very cold winters to live here. Much of the winter (mid-Sept. to late May), we are often isolated here because all roads out are CLOSED! No exaggeration. We have had blizzards the 1st week of June. We once drove home (Cheyenne to Laramie) from a George Strait concert the last week of July through blowing SNOW! During the outdoor concert Strait said 'Are we crazy or what!'. We see ripped up semi trucks on the side of the interstate all the time. Once a microburst hit our van, & then hit a semi across the highway & it went slow motion over on it's side - sparking down the road! Don't believe the folks that just visit in the summer or the chamber of commerce! Highway 287 south to Ft Collins, Colorado (that many refer to as a 'fun place to go'), - that road has one of the highest fatality rates in the country. JUST SAYIN - DO YOUR
