What BestPlaces Users Say about Cheyenne

Cheyenne, Wyoming is a city located in the southeastern part of the state, known for its wide open spaces and western charm. It is the capital of Wyoming and the most populous city in the state. With a population of around 65,000, it is a relatively small city compared to other major cities in the United States. Many people choose to live in Cheyenne for its affordable cost of living, low crime rates, and access to outdoor recreational activities. However, there are also some downsides to living in Cheyenne, such as harsh winter weather and limited job opportunities. Below are excerpts from four different user reviews about living in Cheyenne, showcasing a variety of opinions and perspectives.

1. From "John S.": "I've lived in Cheyenne for over 20 years and I absolutely love it. The small town feel is great and the people are friendly. It's also a very safe place to live, with low crime rates. The only downside is the cold winters, but if you're used to it, it's not too bad."

2. From "Emily D.": "I moved to Cheyenne for a job opportunity and have been here for a year. Overall, I'm not a fan. The city feels pretty isolated and there isn't much to do. The winter weather is brutal and the summers can be scorching. I'm also not a fan of the conservative politics and lack of diversity."

3. From "Mark T.": "Cheyenne is a great place to raise a family. The schools are good, there are plenty of parks and outdoor activities, and the cost of living is affordable. As a bonus, it's only a short drive to the mountains for skiing or hiking. My only complaint is that it can feel a bit slow-paced at times."

4. From "Maria L.": "I've lived in many different cities and Cheyenne is by far my favorite. The community here is incredibly supportive and welcoming. There's always something going on, whether it's a festival, farmers market, or concert. The only downside is the lack of job opportunities, especially for young professionals."

Cheyenne is a joke! - 10/16/2006
I moved here with my fiance about two years ago from the Seattle area. I must say that I came to Cheyenne with an open mind, but am very disappointed in the town. The weather here is horrible (it is windy and cold 9 months of the year). The people claim to be friendly, but I have found the people here to be cold and lacking in social skills. They are conservative and close minded. Wyoming is a very backwards state- the thinking here is behind the rest of the country by about 15 or 20 years. The drivers are pathetic- people drive way under the speed limit, and won't get into the right lane to let you pass. People dress like they're going to a rodeo. There is very little in the way of culture or entertainment. If you're considering a move to Cheyenne, I strongly urge you reconsider and look southword to Fort Collins or Denver. Colorado is a great state, and is much more liberal and Read More

Cheyenne has a relatively stable economy, supported by state/federal government and FE Warren Air Force Base. The community has been growing quite steadily in the past few years as a few new distribution centers have arrived and the Colorado Front Range communities have expanded toward Read More

Cheyenne is pretty good - 7/20/2006
A recent posting asked about Cheyenne, Wyoming... job situation, tornadoes and attitude toward foreigners. I lived in Cheyenne from 1972-1974 and again from 1992-2000, and although I now live in Laramie (45 miles west) I commuted to Cheyenne for work from 2000-2006. I know Cheyenne pretty well, and I love it. The job market overall is pretty good but depends a lot on what kind of job you are seeking. High tech, academic, big bucks... not so much. But trades, government or entrepreneur... pretty good. As for tornadoes, that's kind of a big laugh to me. Cheyenne had one serious tornado in 1979, the first in nearly 100 years. Since then, they have been in a panic about it and think they are like Kansas or something. There are a few funnel clouds every summer (and nobody should minimize the danger of a tornado), but in all seriousness, tornado incidence in Cheyenne is pretty minimal. As for foreigners... I think Cheyenne is pretty much a "live and let live" community, partly due Read More
