CT is Best of Both Worlds - 5/31/2007
As a result of a new job in Mansfield, Massachussetts, my wife and I have started looking for a new place to live to reduce the current 1 1/2 Hr commute from Vernon to Mansfield 3 days per week. We have visited many towns in MA already and have done some research using your site to evaluate eductation, crime, cost of living, air and water quality data. We still believe CT is a great place to live. Most towns offer large supermarkets and retail outlets nearby and the quality of our education and health care systems is excellent. Access to fresh water and salt water beaches is generally less than an 1 1/2 hr drive. We have been spoiled by CT. Unfortunately, CT is losing alot of industries due in part to their high corporate tax rate and high cost of living. Unfortunately, I have followed my high-tech customers into MA and must Read More

The wealthiest state in the union. No infrastructure, few highways, poorly maintained roads, extreme poverty. Hartford, New Haven, Stamford riddled with crime, poverty. This state has a long history of complete failure in leadership and a government riddled with corruption. A billion dollar surpluse, yet they are unable to attract business, provide jobs, reduce crime and address the needs of the people. Don't move to Read More

Utilities and fuel one of the highest, if not the highest in containental USA.
Housing and property taxes pretty close to top, also. North-Eastern part of the state less expensive/South-Western and Hartford area, most expensive. School systems fairly good, but Board of Ed usually controls town/city Read More

Bridgeport is like every other large city - 8/22/2006
It's NOT the worst city in CT (check out Hartford and New Haven criminal records in the local library) but it has the worst reputation due to being in ritzy Fairfield County. Yes, there is crime. Cars are stolen. Jobs can be scarce. However, you take the same precautions that you would in any large and/or impoverish city (New York, Phoenix, Boston, Detroit, Chicago, New Orleans, etc. etc.) Currently there is a minor league baseball and hockey team, two theaters and one auditorium. I graduated from the University of Bridgeport. I was not born here but moved in 1980. I have lived in my current neighborhood for 20 years. There are homeowners on my block who were there before me. If things were that bad why would they stay after raising their children and grandchildren? A lot of people paint the city as one big slum with criminals lurking in every corner. There are projects as well as quiet, family-oriented neighborhoods, urban areas, a condo city and a section known as Black Read More
