Not Minnesota nice, more like Minnesota ice - 3/29/2022
My family and I have lived in Minnesota for just shy of 10 years. We came from a southern state, so we were a little used to more of a friendly type of atmosphere. We always read how Minnesota is a great place to have kids and people are nice. However as my wife terms it, it's not Minnesota nice more like Minnesota ice. People generally will not look you in the face. No one smiles and service at places is very direct and to the point. Most Minnesotans have a core group of people, and trying to break in and get to know someone can be extremely hard. Now it's not that all are this way. There are a few good people and the more you get away from the cities you will find people a little more approachable. However just because of the people we are wanting to move. Other than that the state is lovely. Parks are wonderful and there is a lot to do Read More

Bad, just Bad. - 1/2/2022
I've lived in this city for 4 years and the people are as bitter and cold as the winters here. Have had most only bad experiences here, probably only a couple decent people in the whole state honestly. Terrible place, if not for other circumstances I would be OUT OF HERE. Stay away from this hell hole if you know what's good for you. But yeah there are a lot of places to eat here but the bad temperament and lack of hospitality of its constituent ruin everything about this place. People here can be passive aggressive or just blatantly rude, can't say there's nothing nice about the state but jeez the people here got their own personal issue that they try to project on you. Like you actually care about their baggage and problems, they need to get a Read More

SNOW SNOW SNOW - 2/5/2015
WHEN I FIRST MOVED HERE, SEEMED LIKE A NICE PLACE TO LIVE. THEN WINTER HIT, IT WAS ONE OF THE WORST WINTER'S TO HIT MINNESOTA IN QUITE SOMETIME. BEING FROM SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, WHAT A RUDE AWAKENING. I WAS TOLD THIS ONLY HAPPENS ONCE IN A WHILE? SO I CHECKED MYSELF ON THE WEATHER CHANNEL. THEY INFORMED ME USUAL WINTERS ARE USUALLY WINTERS ARE AT FREEZING OR BELOW FREEZING. SINCE THAT 2007 I RECEIVED THAT INFORMATION I HAVE BEEN DESPERATELY TRYING TO RELOCATE BACK TO CALIFORNIA OR FLORIDA!Read More

Nice place to live, but . . . - 10/16/2013
Minnesota is a great place to live -- if you have money. Now that I'm retired, I've grave concerns about the on-going increase in the cost of living, particularly in the areas that matter most to retirees, housing, food, medical care, transportation. I'm sad should I decide to leave here, but these concerns (well, yes, the weather can be extremely nasty!), but that is probably the choice I will Read More

High Taxes - 2/18/2013
Minnesota is known for its high cost of living a taxes. It one of a few states that tax income from all sources, including pensions and social security. The weather is also challenging. Read More

MN's east/west envy - 1/25/2013
I've lived in Minnesota most of my life mainly due to my job. Retirement is in sight and I plan to escape as soon as possible. MN has always been a high tax state, but it seems to want to emulate New York and California as much as possible. Recently, the governor has released his new "progressive" plan for tax increases. The climate alone is bad enough without competing for the title of "highest taxed state". Time to Read More
