a place for outdoorsy type... - 6/4/2006
who likes cold weather sports like ice fishing, snow mobiling, etc... This is a dry cold with bone-chilling winds. So, make sure to bundle up for the elements.
In addition to the bugs, the warmer weather of spring also ushers in tornado season. So, you need to be prepared and aware of what to do if/when the sirens sound.
The summer temperatures are nice and sunny. That's when the lakes are overflowing with water activities like boating and jet skiing but be aware that there are a lot of bugs, namely mosquitos. If you are in the heart of the city, that might not be an issue but go anywhere near a lake and you're likely to get eaten alive.
If you are the type to hibernate during the winter months, I wouldn't recommend Minnesota as a place to live. I've been many places but the coldest I have ever felt is here in MN. The nicer temps appear from May to October. In my opinion, fall season (albeit short) is my favorite when the temps are cold enough

Twin Cities, Minnesota - 4/20/2006
I've lived in the suburbs of Minneapolis, MN most of my life. I've also been trying to leave for most of my life. The climate is horrid. Winters are long and bone chilling cold. I mean, REALLY cold, so cold that it hurts. Springs are windy and cool. When summer finally arrives, you cannot enjoy it because the mosquitos are so bad. Daytime temps can get hot and humid. By the time September comes, the mosquitos start to die off a bit, but you still cannot enjoy the outdoors because the bees and wasps swarm everywhere. Weather aside, it is beautiful here; very green with lots of trees and lakes. Job opportunities seem to be good, but cost of living is quite high. Housing costs are unaffordable to many first time homebuyers now. People are a lot like the weather - lukewarm to cold. I am one of them and yet I know this. I have heard from transplants that it is hard to fit in. Oh, and beware of the traffic. We do not have proper freeway growth to keep up with the urban
