What BestPlaces Users Say about Minnesota

Minnesota is known for its beautiful lakes, friendly people, and diverse landscapes. It is consistently ranked as one of the best states to live in, with a strong economy, high-quality education, and a variety of outdoor recreational activities. However, every place has its own unique pros and cons, and it's important to hear from those who have experienced living there firsthand. In this case, we will be summarizing user reviews from BestPlaces.net about living in Minnesota, providing insight into the overall opinions and experiences of those who have called it home.

Here are four excerpts from different user reviews about living in Minnesota:

1) "We moved to Minnesota from California and it was the best decision we ever made. The quality of life here is unmatched - low crime rates, great schools, and so many outdoor activities to enjoy. Plus, the people are incredibly welcoming and friendly." - Sarah M.

2) "I've lived in Minnesota my whole life and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. The changing seasons are something special, and there's always something to do no matter the weather. The cost of living is also reasonable compared to other states." - John S.

3) "I moved to Minnesota for work and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. The job opportunities here are abundant, and the cost of living is very manageable. I also love how environmentally conscious the state is - they really prioritize sustainability." - Emily R.

4) "I have mixed feelings about living in Minnesota. On one hand, the natural beauty is breathtaking and there are plenty of things to do. On the other hand, the winters can be brutal and the taxes are quite high. But overall, I'm happy with my choice to live here." - Mark K.

Overall, users seem to have a positive outlook on living in Minnesota, citing its low crime rates, strong job market, and beautiful scenery as major benefits. However, there are also mentions of high taxes and harsh winters as potential downsides. It's clear that everyone's experience in Minnesota will be unique, but these reviews provide a good overview of the overall sentiments towards living in the state.

Minnesota, business not wanted here. - 4/24/2007
I have lived in a lot of states, Minnesota is without a doubt the most business restrictive. The tax rates are high and the legislature is more than willing to vote for regulations on private industry. Whether the excuse is the environment, more money for education (which Minnesota already spends PLENTY), or even the number of charter schools that are permitted by the state.

The state senate recently passed the highest tax rate in the nation for those earning over $150,000 per year. This will likely not withstand the veto from the governer, but the restriction that it would put on small business is significant. 70% of Minnesota small businesses fall into the category of private filing for taxes and earning less than $150,000 per year.

Jobs are already hard enough to come by in the state, there is a reason for many of the state's most significant cities having a negative population growth rate. Rochester, which was recently lauded as the fastest growing Read More

Minnesota is a great state - 4/23/2007
I was just recently in the state of Minnesota for medical help at the Mayo clinic. I flew into Minneapolis and drove down to Rochester. I have to say that Minnesota was the cleanest, nicest state I've ever seen. The people I met and talked to, who were natives, which were many, were the friendliest, happiest folks I've ever met. I've lived in 5 different states over my 48 years and find the people in Minnesota to be the most progressive I've ever met. You should take great pride in yourselves and your state. I'm sure you're state has had it's growing pains and problems, but believe me, you live in a real gem of a place. I know the weather isn't great but believe me, weather isn't always the only factor when it comes to liveability. I live where the sun shines more than 200 days per year and with it comes too many other negatives, too many people who don't care about where they live, crime, grafitti, pollution etc. etc. I'd take what you have in Minnesota over "sunshine" Read More

NOT A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE - 1/3/2007
As a 34 yr old resident of minnesota. and having lived in various cities throughout the metropolitan vistas. I would disagree and argue with any individual that compliments this stale state.
With harsh seasonal chaotic changes. AVERAGE OR BELOW AVERAGE job markets, high crime rates including gang relations, theft, vandalism and ignorance running rampant from one end of the spectrum to the other. I cannot understand why anyone would justify positive references to this region.
People of all cultures are unfriendly. housing costs are sky rocketing.......little for not alot!
AND BY ALL MEANS NECCESSARY STAY AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE FROM THE NORTHERN RURAL COUNTIES!!!!!
The only positive feedback I can assert. would be our shopping experiences and the growth of retail environs....some of the best!!!!

I might add If you are a sports fanatics minnesota does cater to this form of entertainment to the TEE!

My husband is a high school Eng Lit teacher. - 9/19/2006
My husband is a high school Eng Lit. teacher. He has a master's/experience in administration, but will probably want to start out as a teacher. We are thinking about moving to Minneapolis/St Paul area, Eden Prairie, Coon Rapids, or Maple Grove, but I've heard rumors that the funding for jobs in education has declined and that it's become very difficult for a teacher or administrator moving here to get a job. Is that true? If anyone has any opinions on this, please post. Thanks! Read More

If you have a choice in the matter, DO NOT MOVE TO - 9/1/2006
Growing up I lived in 8 different cities let alone the time I spend traveling for work and recreation, so I have plenty to compare. I moved to MN without a choice, have lived here for 9 years, and have hated it the entire time. I will absolutely leave the instant I have the opportunity. "Minnesota nice" is a myth. You will have a hard time getting to know neighbors because no one in this state can think outside of their own little selfish world. If you didn't go to, as they call it, "the U" (University of MN), then you are an outsider and not worth their time. If you don't go "up north" (like MN isn't far enough for you?) for long weekends and over the summer, then you haven't lived, according to them. To sum it up in one sentence, Minnesotans think the world ends at the MN state Read More
