What BestPlaces Users Say about Oregon

Oregon is known for its natural beauty, outdoor activities, and progressive culture. With its diverse landscapes including mountains, forests, and coastlines, it's no surprise that many people are drawn to live in this state. However, like any place, living in Oregon has its pros and cons. To gain a better understanding of what it's like to reside in this particular place, let's take a look at some user reviews from BestPlaces.net.

According to John D., who currently lives in Portland, Oregon, "The outdoor recreation opportunities here are endless. I love being able to go hiking, skiing, and camping all within a short drive from the city." Similarly, Sarah W. from Eugene, Oregon states, "The natural beauty of Oregon is what made me want to call this place home. The greenery, the mountains, and the ocean all contribute to a peaceful and picturesque environment." These reviews highlight the appeal of Oregon's outdoor lifestyle.

On the other hand, not everyone is satisfied with the cost of living in Oregon. As Alex H. from Salem, Oregon mentions, "Housing prices have skyrocketed in recent years, making it difficult for many people to afford a decent home." Along with housing, the cost of taxes and groceries are also a concern for some residents, according to Jennifer B. from Bend, Oregon, who says, "The high taxes and the rising cost of groceries have become a burden for me and my family."

Overall, it seems that people who choose to live in Oregon value its natural beauty and outdoor opportunities, but may struggle with the increasing cost of living. As David M. from Ashland, Oregon puts it, "I've lived here my whole life and while there are some downsides, the positives far outweigh them. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else." Despite its flaws, Oregon continues to attract and satisfy many residents with its unique charm.

"Oregon Is "O"verated!" - 2/18/2014
I am originally born on the East Coast. I never felt at home there. However.. being from the East Coast, I didn't want to head all the way South, because of how different the people are from the East and West Coast. I didn't think I would adjust or fit in. I always wanted to move to California, but had heard you don't just move there unless you can afford to move and live there. I almost bought a beautiful manufactured home up in Norther California (Colefax) area, not far from Sacramento or San Fransisco. I heard the weather all year long was "perfect". The deal fell through and I was now faced with a limited amount of time to move from WI., where I had lived for eight years. I did not want to fear tornado's or 3 feet of snow and a foot sheets of ice any longer after last winter. I grew up with snow and don't mind it now and again a few inches. Someone told me to look into RV rentals. I never heard of this being from the East Coast. Even the Mid West does not have the RV population Read More

A town where people don't shower and are incredibl - 9/15/2013
I've finally left Portland after being seduced by the NY Times articles and short visits to check it out. Boy was I duped. I quickly grew tired of the phony shop keepers asking me about my weekend plans--you don't know me and why would you care? Tired of the icy coldness of the general public--unless your a "Proud Oregionian" they would much prefer you not move to their state. I grew tired of being asked why I moved there and fear that I might be taking a job away from one of their own. Guess what? I wasn't taking your job. I brought my own. I ate in your restaurants and hired your people. I paid property taxes and contributed to your overall economy. I'm educated with a post-graduate degree. I shower and I have all of my teeth (meth addicts everywhere). I qyuickly grew weary of the holier than though Christian fundamentalists. I've never seen so many businesses advertise the scriptures on their websites. The incidence of DUIs was appalling. I felt like I was in the Ozarks for much Read More

Moving from Texas to Oregon - 9/7/2012
I am fed up with Texas, the weather, the people, every last bit of it, so My husband and I have decided to move, we had considered Florida at first. However I quickly changed my mind to Oregon after my husband had mentioned it to me, I started looking online and immediately fell in love with it, absolutely beautiful. Now we had considered living on the coast but also are considering the Portland area, He is a licensed Crematory Operator and I am finishing school to be a Paralegal. What is the crime like near Portland? Are there jobs available? I read something about not being able to pump your own gas, is this true?? Also What about state taxes as in Texas we don't pay state taxes. We are planning on taking a trip up there for a much needed vacation, just the two of us but also we are going to be checking out the areas, jobs houses etc... Please any information is welcome, and any helpful websites also. Read More

Oregon Central Coast - 7/7/2012
The Oregon Central Coast is a beautiful, economical place to live.
In the rural areas most residences have their own water via wells, and their own septic systems. This reduces monthly expenses. In the last three years Elkton, Drain, Scottsburg have all gained internet and cell phone accessibilty.
Elkton has fabulous Charter Schools where the students have small classes and receive the education they deserve.
Reedsport also has Charter Schools.
The climate in the summer is fabulous, no bugs, no humidity and great for growing vegetable gardens in Scottsburg, Elkton and Drain. July through October is full on Sun. November you can count on rain, December and January are dry but cool, the end of February through April is generally rainy, then May and June have alternating rain one week, sun the next. I have lived here for 12 years.
Clean air, clean water, with many opportunities for biking, hiking, fishing, crabbing and camping.
