What BestPlaces Users Say about Oregon

Oregon is known for its natural beauty, outdoor activities, and progressive culture. With its diverse landscapes including mountains, forests, and coastlines, it's no surprise that many people are drawn to live in this state. However, like any place, living in Oregon has its pros and cons. To gain a better understanding of what it's like to reside in this particular place, let's take a look at some user reviews from BestPlaces.net.

According to John D., who currently lives in Portland, Oregon, "The outdoor recreation opportunities here are endless. I love being able to go hiking, skiing, and camping all within a short drive from the city." Similarly, Sarah W. from Eugene, Oregon states, "The natural beauty of Oregon is what made me want to call this place home. The greenery, the mountains, and the ocean all contribute to a peaceful and picturesque environment." These reviews highlight the appeal of Oregon's outdoor lifestyle.

On the other hand, not everyone is satisfied with the cost of living in Oregon. As Alex H. from Salem, Oregon mentions, "Housing prices have skyrocketed in recent years, making it difficult for many people to afford a decent home." Along with housing, the cost of taxes and groceries are also a concern for some residents, according to Jennifer B. from Bend, Oregon, who says, "The high taxes and the rising cost of groceries have become a burden for me and my family."

Overall, it seems that people who choose to live in Oregon value its natural beauty and outdoor opportunities, but may struggle with the increasing cost of living. As David M. from Ashland, Oregon puts it, "I've lived here my whole life and while there are some downsides, the positives far outweigh them. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else." Despite its flaws, Oregon continues to attract and satisfy many residents with its unique charm.

The worst city in the US - 4/6/2007
I wrote my first post about Portland in October 2006, after living here for 2 months. I thought, "I'll give it some time and maybe things will get better". Well, I couldn't be more wrong and they've only gotten worse. The sooner we can secure jobs somewhere else, we're moving our family back to a more normal part of the country (anywhere OTHER than Portland).

What's so bad about Portland you ask? Well, I say the best way to see that is to go see the real Portland. Get on the Max (Portland's great public transportation system, I might ad in all fairness) and take it through Portland. First, be prepared to deal with some of the weirdest characters you'll ever see. There are bumper stickers in Oregon that say, "Keep Portland Weird". Well, they have succeeded!

Life in the Greater Portland Metropolitan area - 4/2/2007
Overall it's an okay place to live. I grew up here and see how overpopulated it has become. The city of Portland government is always crying about not having enough money for schools, yet they waste money on things that most people don't want or even need. I'm glad I don't live in the city. Very glad. I live here for the scenery and my Read More

The good, the bad, and the ugly - 1/3/2007
Oregon has no sales tax, but property taxes are high, crime rate is terrible, and politics has turned Oregon into a far left state, which in turn has done much to hurt the economy of Oregon. Education administrative costs have become so high that it is harming the quality of children's education instead of helping it.
Oregon is a beautiful state with many natural wonders, a place that at one time a person had the freedom to enjoy and go where they pleased and follow their dreams. It's place that I fell in love with 45 years ago. Now, sadly, so much has changed that the freedom we cherished is slowly being choked out of our Read More

Eugene and most of Oregon leans heavily to the lef - 7/30/2006
Oregon is a hard place to get things done. Besides a spiraling state debt, every issue is talked to death and I have seen federal dollars pulled for projects because government is trying to do what is politically correct for everyone. You can't please everyone. Do what is best for most and move Read More
