Apple Valley is a nice place if you have kids but be prepared for very long cold winters, damp rainy springs and a much to short summer. The schools are very good and you are close to Minneapolis and St. Paul. I have lived here for 18 years but the winters have become to much for me and I intend to move to a more mild climate.
