Review of Bastrop, Louisiana

Sell Bastrop back to the French.
Star Rating - 8/31/2010
It would do the state and country a world of good. I've been up here since evacuating from New Orleans and the only good thing I can say about it is that some of the people are nice. That's not saying much though because hell some of the people in New York City are nice too.

The economy here is in shambles, the unemployment rate is more than 11%(depression) and there seems to be a great deal of graft. That is whatever few jobs there is are usually given to friends and family members.

Don't get me wrong I have had people help me but for the most part the town is not a good place to live and if I could move from here I would. Unfortunately I'm in the same situation like many other are. The only difference was I was forced up here.

I don't see the situation changing because the way I see it the town is ran by a bunch of crooked politicians and preachers and as long as they can keep lining their pockets why should it.

Wait Ann, you mean that turd who was determined across the board to be the worst president in US history, the one who decided to end his term with a prospective coup? I didn't know demagogues were that good for a free society.

There are a few positives in Morehouse Parish. Housing is very reasonable, Monroe and Crossett (which do have job growth) are within 24 miles of Bastrop. Twenty-five miles is not a bad commute. Morhouse Parish still has rural land for sale and the Charter School in Beekman is excelling.

You forgot to mention the poorly managed city school system in Bastrop.

Bastrop was once a thriving community but a Socialist mentality entered which was not nurturing and economically positive to a free hard-working society. It is necessary to have inventive, creative, corporate leaders and entrepreneurs who work hand-in-hand to bolster the economy in a small town. The government and its bureaucrats are not the answer. One educated common-sense person can rally an area to become a thriving community. Look at Trump and what he has accomplished by wooing businesses to enter into a “Make America Great” campaign. Graft, hand-outs and welfare are not the solutions. You stated you came here with the Katrina victims. Katrina aftermath was a welfare, money grabbing debacle. How did you positively use the $10,000 you were given from the feds?
