Bloomington, Il. - Some Good/Some Bad

I have lived in Bloomington for the past 12 years. It is always growing but still has few big city problems. Traffic is tolerable as you can get just about anywhere in ten minutes. The summer weather is nice but the wind the rest of the year can be tough to handle, especially in winter when temps are below freezing and the wind chill can exceed -20 to -60 degrees. 99% percent of the restaurants are chains and little diversity. The town is very religious on the conservative Christian side. Support our Troops and God Bless America stickers are still on many cars. There are churches on every block. Crime is fairly low. There are some cultural activities such as the summer Shakespeare Festival and the new arena which brings in sporting events and concerts. The two universities and Community college make for a pretty nice college atmosphere. By far the bigest problem is the incredibly high property taxes. A $400,000 home will be taxed between $9000 to $10,000 per year.
