From NJ to AZ

I have lived here three years. I live just north of the I-10 in the Sierra Highland neighborhood, just down the street from the Skyline Regional Park. There are pros and cons to living here.
At times, the smell of manure and possibly the smell from the chicken/egg plants nearer to Tonopah can be quite off putting if you are not used to that. Additionally, we have a problem with quite a lot of flies at times.
Last year I was stung by a scorpion in my house. That was not fun. We have become more diligent in trying to keep them away.
Since our home backs to the desert, although we have a brick wall that separates us-- we do have rattlesnakes (three of my neighbors had rattlesnakes in their backyards---the firemen came and took them. We also have rattlesnakes that breed in the bushes at our park which also backs to the desert.)
We have hawks, owls, eagles, coyotes and mountain lions. Two years ago, a mountain lion jumped the neighbor's wall and mauled their puppy, it had to be put to sleep.
We are living in their territory, so we do have to be careful.
However, we just got notice that the desert behind us, full of saguaro cacti will be built upon. Acres and acres of land will soon be houses, and will back right up to the mountains. I suppose that our wildlife will not be as prevalent here after the houses are built. I am going to miss the gorgeous desert, the cacti, the wildlife. I love to hear the coyotes at night and I am not concerned about the wildlife, I moved here to be as near to the wildlife and mountains as possible, even though I was stung by a bark scorpion! So I am very sad to hear that the development will be here beginning Nov '22. What can you do? It is progress, but it sucks for us.
There isn't a lot going on here, aside from a Walmart and a Fry's grocery store. But, there is Abrazo Medical Center if one should need a family doctor or the ER. I think they are great there, and it is a very clean medical center. There are some fast food restaurants as well. The things that we need are conveniently located.
The things we like to do, such as bowling or going to the diner or Barnes and Noble and Target, we have to travel to either Goodyear or Surprise.
The winter is fabulous here, I love happy, sunny days! The summer seems to go on forever and it is so hot that one needs to get one's errands done before 9 or 10 am. Last year, we escaped the heat and went to Flagstaff for vacation. But, I would still take the heat over horrible winters and gloomy rain and clouds any day.
Overall, I am glad we moved here. It is much better than where I lived before--which was Burlington County, NJ. I would choose Buckeye, AZ over NJ any day of the week.
