Review of Canandaigua, New York

DEcent place to raise a family but a little pricey
Star Rating - 2/4/2007
New York is one of the highest taxed states in the country. The political feel is very Democratic and not at all good for business. Most of the large businesses are either going bankrupt or moving out of state due to taxes.
Canandaigua is in the heart of the Finger Lakes region and has a lot of nice things to offer. The lake is beautiful and wonderful to spend time on and around, great fishing as well with nice clear water. The people are friendly and open. It is pretty much a touristy area with wineries everywhere. The weather in the winter can range from tons of snow and subzero temperatures to mild and temps in the 30s. February is always around zero degrees though. The summers are very mild, around 80ºF, and not too humid, except middle of July it can hit high 90s or even 100 for a week or so.
Overall it is a very nice city to live in with low crime and decent schools. But the taxes are a killer! NY taxes everything and then taxes the taxes. I am leaving for Chattanooga, TN in the near future.
