Review of Cannon Falls, Minnesota

Canon Falls...a little of everything
Star Rating - 7/12/2010
I have lived here almost 30 years and loved it.
Friendly, but not intrusive people and neighbors.
A variety of churches equals a melting pot of many different peoples, but for the most part people caring about each other.
I chose to live in the country, a few minutes out of town. There is a lot of soft rolling land all around Cannon Falls, most of it wooded or agricultural. We have a fabulous new High School and fairly new elementary school too. Two rivers run by CF which make it fun for canoing. A major highway also outside of town connects Rochester, to the south, with the Twin Cities, to the north. We have parks, bike trails, our very own July 4th Fair and even skiing is only 20 minutes away at Welch Village. Although we don't have a Wal-Mart or other type stores here, we have a small variety of local shops which suffice. Our population was 3,000 in 1985 and is now over 4,000 in 2010. This town is not exploding, but it is far from dying. Cost of living is average here...it just depends on HOW you want to live. If I was not looking to relocate to be more centrally near my two children I would probably want to stay here for ever. This area is full of winter and summer sports...and is inclined toward families. I think a single person would be happier living in the Twin Cities, but we always had horses around and so country living was our choice. We have a great chamber of commerce which will tell you more. We do get snow here, and every winter is different...but be sure to bring a shovel with you as snow starts as early as November and continues, on and off, through March. With all our lakes you can always find a good place to fish too!
