There is a great in city walk (the Highline) which is an abandoned rail line turned into a natural and architectural wonder.
The bike path along the Hudson takes you from the base of Manhattan - and views of the Statue of Liberty all the way to the countryside settings beyond the George Washington Bridge.
Governors Island is a bikers and walkers delight in the harbor, free ferry on weekends.
