Cheyenne is pretty good

A recent posting asked about Cheyenne, Wyoming... job situation, tornadoes and attitude toward foreigners. I lived in Cheyenne from 1972-1974 and again from 1992-2000, and although I now live in Laramie (45 miles west) I commuted to Cheyenne for work from 2000-2006. I know Cheyenne pretty well, and I love it. The job market overall is pretty good but depends a lot on what kind of job you are seeking. High tech, academic, big bucks... not so much. But trades, government or entrepreneur... pretty good. As for tornadoes, that's kind of a big laugh to me. Cheyenne had one serious tornado in 1979, the first in nearly 100 years. Since then, they have been in a panic about it and think they are like Kansas or something. There are a few funnel clouds every summer (and nobody should minimize the danger of a tornado), but in all seriousness, tornado incidence in Cheyenne is pretty minimal. As for foreigners... I think Cheyenne is pretty much a "live and let live" community, partly due to the Air Force base there. I have known people from all over including Basques, Latinos, Jews, Muslims, pretty much anyone you could mention. If you are accepting of Cheyenne, Cheyenne will be accepting of you. It's a pretty good place that way.
